Hello! I am a proud aunt of an almost 4 year old and a 16 month old. :lovestruc My sister is very much in need of a new stroller. We are planning a big Disney trip in 2011 (seems so far away but I manage to still be excited for it :wizard:) but even still she needs this for day to day use as well. My store options for where I live is limited, so I've come to the conclusion I will more than likely purchase one online. I have gone to every store in town that sells double strollers (Toys R Us, Target, Burlington, etc) and try sitting the kids in the strollers to test them out. Thats when trouble strikes. The 4 year old (few months shy) is too tall for all of them. His head doesn't fit under the sun shades or when it reclines he hits the material or bar, etc. I have not been able to find anything that fits the criteria I am looking for...

1. Double Stroller
2. Light weight
3. Tall enough for toddlers
4. Reclines
5. Will not cost me a small fortune :thumbsup2
6. Will not break my back leaning over to push it. I am 5'8" and some of these strollers are just silly with how short the handles are. :rolleyes:

I am willing to pay for a good stroller, but some of these $500 ones are out of the question. I hear so many good things about the Maclaren strollers, but there are not any double in store for me to try. I would prefer to not have to buy one online only to end up having to pay to ship it back.

Can anyone confirm that the Maclarens are good for taller children as well? Any other suggestions perhaps?

Thanks! :flower3:

Have you considered a sit-n-stand. We purchased one for our last trip and it worked out great. Its smaller than a double so its easier to handle especially on Disney transportation and lighter. The little one has the front seat all to themselves with a recline and tray. The back has a little seat and a platform so the big kid can stand looking in either direction or sit on the bench seat looking backwards. See the link:

Hope it works

I have thought about the sit n stand strollers. The problem there is the toddler still naps and needs to be able to recline. Even now he will fight over the rear seat in her current stroller because it reclines all the way back. I see some on the link you provided that are double strollers that convert into a sit n stand. That may be possible. Thanks! :goodvibes

have you looked at any of the Baby Joggers strollers -- such as the city mini double or city elite?? They are absolutely awesome. I know for the double my dd6 - 45" tall can sit in it w/o a problem. It has a 100 lb weight limit. We ended up going w/ a single city mini and absolutely love it. It was soo easy to manuveur around disney and the fold is out of this world. check out their website to see more about the stroller. babyjogger.com I have been looking for a double for foster care- Need one to hold an infant carrier. I found many, many city mini/elite on Craigslist for 1/2 of their orginal cost. I ended up going w/ a peg perego aria twin but it was the only one that will hold the infant carrier and not weigh a ton. ds2.5 is heading towards the I want to walk but there are times i need him to be in the stroller. I know the steering isn't the greatest but for the short times I will be using it, I will put up w/ it. If I had the choice I would have gotten the city mini double but ds2.5 is our last so time wise it doesnt' make sense.

good luck w/ your search

Maclaren Twin techno. My boys are 3 (will be 4 in April) and almost 2. They both sleep in it, fit in it, and the weight limit is 100 pounds. It is good for newborn and up. I bought mine at albeebaby.com in a discontinued color and saved about $60. It was worth every penny and I use it ALL the time. Oh, and the seats fully recline which is one of the most important things for me. They have handle extender things too which are great for tall people. I love it. They don't have them in any stores around me either, but I bought the single Maclarent techno before my second child was born and fell in love so I knew the double would be great.

I'm confused - if her oldest is going to be 5 on the trip, she might not even need a double. Who are you referring to when you say toddler? I consider 0 -1 a baby, 1 - 3 a toddler, 3- 5 a preschooler, and 5 and up a child. Almost all strollers can hold toddlers. By the time my twins were 4, they were done with the stroller, although we rented one at WDW for that trip. I don't think I'd invest in a double stroller just for the trip, more than a year away, now.

well what she needs really depends on what she uses a stroller for in day to day life. If she rarely uses a double stroller (or needs one) then I'd say a double jogger would be her best bet for a 4-5yr old and a toddler. Esp at disney. They are bulky and a bit difficult to deal with on the buses but well worth the ability to let the kids sleep comfortably in the parks and hold all the junk that you tend to bring with you when you have kids. LOL

I really like the City mini doubles. They are similar to a double jogger but fit through doorways and seem to have better reviews for pushing. I've never tested one so not sure on the handle height. The joggers I know are fine since I'm 5'11" and the joggers are comfortable for me to push.

I think the City Mini would be the best for the ages of the children. Are you buying the stroller soon so she will use it now and when you go to WDW?

I bought my niece the Perego P3 for WDW in 2007. She is also fairly tall and this year was her last time in the stroller. She still fit fine but you can tell she is outgrowing it. She was 44" tall and over the 45 lb weight limit.

I would think if the preschooler is too tall now for most doubles, he will be even more so in another year. My 5 y/o rode in a Mac Volo - it doesn't recline but she couldn't have if she wanted to because her entire head was over the back of the stroller - we left the sunshade at home because of this. The toddler (the 16 m/o) should fit in any stroller I would think unless it is one serious big child.

Infant = <12 months
Toddler = 1-2 y/o
Preschooler = 3-4 y/o
Child = 5+

she may not need a double as the ideal thing is 2 strollers so you can seperate...

but no way would I bring our DD5 to Disney without some sort of stroller.

Another vote for the Baby Jogger City Mini Double. They have a combined weight of 100 pounds. We have a single at home for DD1, and we rented a double while we were at Disney so DD 5 could ride, too. It was really easy to push, even with 75+ pounds of kid. Compared to a lot of doubles, its pretty lightweight and really easy to fold.

DD 5 is about 45" and her she fir under the canopy. Not a whole lot of growing room, but she fit. She also liked to lay down with the seat reclined, no problem. It also has a nice sized storage basket and a couple mesh pockets.

They run about $400, but worth every penny! If you rent a double for the trip (at the park or even an outside company), it's going to run you at least $100, so that's something to consider too. You might check out eBay for deals, too.
