Hello all - I'm finally back and done reading the umteen pages of posts!

I was at the beach with Cindifan and family last week - needless to say trying out lots of drink combinations for our upcoming October cruise! I'm still not sold on any one thing - - - How many suitcases can we bring each? :confused3 I'm scared of the final bill at he ABC store before the cruise!:scared1:

:bday: Belated to the boys! My birthday was 8/22 and couldn't think of a better place to spend it than on the beach with friends and family! (OK - WDW or DCL would be better, but the beach was planned since January:rotfl: )

I did get to try out my new underwater camera and was very pleased! I can't wait to see what pictures I can take at Castaway Cay!!! :rolleyes1

I also picked up some new luggage - I will need it for next year too. . . right?

I love the creative ideas that are being posted about our theme! I think they are all better than I could come up with and will be happy with what is chosen!

I am also an avid book reader - In fact I have to keep from picking up books too much because nothing else will get done! I did give a bunch away this last week though. The beach house we stayed in seems to have a large selection of books and I bring a bunch to trade. I even returned some of the ones I took last year.

Kimberly - I'm with you about thinking that we will still go to Costa Maya, and I plan to spend my share to help rebuild their economy!

I see a Double Dip book club in the near future....and possibly a bartender's club :rolleyes1 ;)

For fun, I keep track of our cruise price. We booked through Sam's club. When we booked, CAT 5 was $100 more than CAT 6. Then they were about $20 apart in price, CAT 5 being more expensive.

Now the CAT 6 is $20 more than the CAT 5.:confused3 Strange...

I can't get there from here... On a good note, would upgrading to a Cat 5 mean people would get money back?

What's a Cat 4 going for, if you don't mind me asking?

Sign me up for both! Although I prefer drinking the mixes to making them - as Tiffany's DH can attest! (Kinda that way about my coffee also - rather drink it than make it)

Here's a website w/additional info on Costa Maya I came across at cruisecritic:
http://www.portillas.com/

There's a nice blog & pics describing the damage done by Dean.

The folks in that area have quite a journey ahead to get their lives back to 'normal'. I just can't imagine trying to recover from something like this, especially with so little in the way of available resources. :sad2:

I'm liking the book club, and drink recipe swapping ideas:rolleyes1 David's specialty is hte coconut margarita

Hurricane Dean: Yes, it has to have devestated the economy. It is terrible. I am comparing it to what happened to Cozumel a few years back (and many people whose lives were ruined in Cozumel moved to Costa Maya to rebuild and now have to go through it all over again). I would say the odds are good that we will make to to Costa Maya, but it is certainly something that could still be up in the air (I am sure we have all experienced construction delays at some point). I do not think DCL will make an official decision NOT to go until very close to the sail date so as to give Costa Maya as much chance as possible to rebuild.

DryDock: The only rumor I have heard about drydock is that they will be adding a "photopass style" system for shutters. We were told this by a couple of Shutters photographers on the repo crusie. I hope it is true:)

We all four did our vocal audtions for Pippin tonight:scared: I didn't know I COULD be so nervous--my heart was pounding like I had run the ships 12 flights:rotfl2: Marika, who takes after her mother, was a similar mess. Dave was a bit nervouse and Rio (happy go lucky child that he is) was totally unfazed (even though he wants this more than any of us--really wants to be Theo, and I am nearly positive the part is precast). The cast list is supposed to be online by midnight. We are hampered by the fact that we will miss the first two weeks of rehearsals (VACATION). We are hoping to get ANY parts at all. So, if you'd like to send pixie dust this way we'd appreciate it:goodvibes

Enjoy your eveningspopcorn::

I paypal'ed Cliff Evans some money and he immediately emailed a personal thank you note. I thought that response was pretty amazing. He also enclosed the information from his website in his email.

DH and kiddo are curled up with Angelina Balerina, so I'm going to sneak down and try out adult beverages. Wish me luck!

Hadley, do you want to bring books to trade?

:wizard: for the audition results!

I have determined that dark creme de cocoa, vanilla vodka, and pineapple juice is not a good combination. However, coconut rum, Butterscotch shnapps, and pineapple juice IS a good combination... if I want to be found the next morning under a table! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: Guess I shouldn't mix them in equal amounts...

My gums are tingling! :rotfl:

That is just TOOOOOOO funny! Glad you were finally able to get in some time for experminting. :)

My expermintation w/the drink having both pineapple & orange juice was about that type of reaction (not a good combination). But, then, after it was about half gone, it was more like the 2nd comment. Besides, it was pretty entertaining (so I've been told) for all those in attendance (LuvTheEars, her DH, her Dmom, her DN, my DH).

Your 2nd mix sounds pretty good, btw.........

When I told hubby I was going down to test, he said, "I'll be down later to carry you up!" :rotfl: I'm a known lightweight!

I used a very small juice glass to test. The only drink I know that tastes good with both pineapple juice and orange juice is deeeeeadly! It's called a der Smitten and it uses allll the alcohol we "normally" keep. Very very tasty, too. :thumbsup2 It's made up in the biggest plastic cup you have. It dates from hubby's college years, so that tells you how dangerous it is! Peach Schnapps, Southern Comfort, Sloe gin, amaretto, and juices. Knock you right out! :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Ok, as long as we're talking about interests & stuff - are there any Nascar fans out there? Or are DH & I the only ones? Wonder if we can catch the race on the ship............

Booogity, booogity, booogity let's go racing! (to quote one of my fav announcers - DW)

Besides mixology (& consuming said mixes), books, Big Brother........what other interests do folks have? My favorite reality show is about to start back up - Dancing With the Stars. :happytv:

Yeah, I know - it mixes really well w/Nascar, eh? Go figure........

My mom, who will be coming with us, likes Nascar. She's lurking, but hasn't introduced herself yet. She's considering going to Talladega next month (?).

Sounds like one I need to stay away from. I did learn in college that hangovers & getting sick is just NOT worth it - no fun at all. :sad2:

That being said, we really aren't lushes. We just had the chance to indulge a bit at the beach since we were all there together & not driving anywhere. I'm usually a really cheap date - one or two drinks at the most. When I do indulge. Before the beach trip, I can't remember the last time we imbibed.

Hi, Brandie's mom! <wave>

We're sitting here watching the Primetime show about Nascar. The race they are following is Talladega. Tough race. Ah, they're back there in October & the chase will be hot & heavy by then. We'd love to get to Lowe's (Charlotte, NC) when they come back in a few weeks, but don't think that's going to happen - have to pay for the cruise after all. Priorities. Nothing quite like being at the track, hearing the cars & feeling the vibrations as a field of 43 cars fly by at 180+ MPH, but I can watch it on TV. Of course, if I watch it at home, I don't have to worry about sitting in a parkng lot for hours & hours trying to get home after the race (not to mention all the idiots who get behind the wheel & drive home after drinking during the entire race).
