Wow, I'm really shocked! It seemed like progress was being made at CM and ahead of schedule.

I was hoping to have two days in Mexico because we wanted one beach day and one ruins day. Oh well, I think we'll do a quick tour of Cayman, just to see the island - we've never been to GC and it seems silly to be there and not get an essence of the island - and then see how the rest of the day unfolds. The turtle park looks great too. In the end, it's DD's birthday trip and she can pick the excursion.

For anyone that's been - is tendering a very time consuming process? Do they go back and forth all day? Thanks.

FatCat, I just have to say that many times I've sat hear reading your responses laughing. You have such a gift for making the most of few words to get to the punch! :rotfl:

Indeed a 19th member has joined us.....a big huge thank you to MagicMe!!

Thank you, MagicMe!!! I made you a new feature on Post #6 for your generosity!

Gramto3, you gave quite an interesting visual there. :)

Who says you can't wear them? Jason and I are going to get sharpies and cross out "Costa Maya" and put in "Grand Cayman!!" I think it'll be funny....or just leave it the way it is.......nobody will even notice I promise!!

:lmao: OMG that is SOOOO funny! Actually I think doing that represents this memory of change rather well!

I haven't been to GC either, but I am still disappointed simply because it's such a common port for many cruiselines to visit, and I know I'll make it there someday anyways. So Costa Maya was appealing to me. I feel a little bad for those of you with the REAS or concierge since you'll be booking excursions on Sat. Of course really you have until T-90 to beat the rush.

....and i haven't started looking yet but if there's still an excursion where we can see live Sea Turtles then we might be doing that!!! hadley can tell you that I almost ALWAYS do any excursion that involves animals of any kind!!! :lmao:

Just be aware that some people are appalled when they see how crowded the turtles are. They are in big round concrete tanks and I doubt you'll get a "warm and fuzzy" feeling about it, imho

This was my only tendering experience and I thought it was really quick - but I have nothing to compare it to - LOL! I got right on the boat both times - and enjoyed taking pics of the Magic from the tender.

Others on our cruise went to the turtle park and really enjoyed it - some big park with turtles and swimming pool area - I am guessing it is the one folks are talking about.

I didn't find much that held my interest for shopping but I didn't wander far from where the tender and mini-sub were.

Does anyone have experience w/independents for Grand Cayman excursions?

I'll be researching this too... I'm not going book any excursions through DCL - just as my way to 'protest'. We have a 4 year old and DCL doesn't offer any worthwhile 'all ages' activities anyway.

The person who was sort of "in charge" of our Dis Cruise Meet for the Oct. 2007 western we were on went to the Boatswain's turtle park - I went back to our old meet thread and pulled up her post with her review and many pics of the place. She really liked it - and had young kids: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=21316333&postcount=1650

It is a lot cheaper to do on your own - perhaps one we'd consider not doing with DCL cause it doesn't seem so unpredictable. She says she paid to take the same bus that the DCL folks ended up on - I'm curious what bus that is so I'm going to PM her for more info.:goodvibes

We did GC a few years ago and we loved it. Our entire group did the Pirate tour. It was cheesy, but it was relaxing. We did feel safe at GC. and we bought great rum. :)

We did Grand Cayman last month on our Western. The color of the water was amazing.

Fiona did not appreciate the Pirate excursion. She's doesn't care for Pirates, because she's a little princess:

The other part is the railings on the pirate boat come up to our shins, so DH and I were a little wigged out she'd take a leap or fall over while she wasn't looking around during her dancing to the good music.

I've got some pictures, if you want to see.

I would LOVE to see the pictures! :)

While we are all looking at GC excursions. The ultimate planners also have Eastern excursions mapped out as contingency.

So if you need something to do.....

We have never been to Grand Cayman either, so it's not such a big deal for us. I was more excited about Costa Maya though, and I'm not really looking forward to tendering, but I think it will be ok in the end. I don't really cruise for the ports as much as for the boat anyway!

I think Erik's suggestion of crossing out the 'Costa Maya' and writing in 'Grand Cayman' on the t-shirts with a sharpie would actually be really cute. Maybe someone could even change the logo so it looked like that. I mean, an 'edited' cruise should have an 'edited' logo.

I am a little excited that I get to do more research and planning now. Does that make me weird? Maybe not on these boards!

I'm a bit worried about booking. I get to book at the 90 day mark. So, I can stay up until Midnight on Sat, June 28th and try and book starting early in the morning of Sun, June 29th. Here's the problem: Currently I'm a part of the Washington Wizards dance team. Each year you have to re-audition to make it back on the squad and audtions are That Weekend!! So I'll have been dancing All Day Saturday and would have to be up early on Sunday (not to mention looking my best) to go back and dance All Sunday! Eeek. Is this something I can leave to my DH?? I mean I have a plan, a strategy! How can a control freak like me put something so serious in someone else's control?? Will anything be left if I wait??

Only as weird as the rest of us!!!:rotfl2:

I know what you mean. That's a busy time of year for dancers. Our DD Savannah is in two dance recitals...one Sat. night the 28th and the matinee on Sun. the 29th. When I first saw that before I was even thinking about the 90 day limit I thought "Watch it be *that* day", and of course it is. :confused3 At least I'll already be still up at midnight. Probably doing emergency costume repair! :rotfl:

As far as waiting....honestly I dunno. DCL *does* hold slots at Palo, the spa, Flounders, Excursions, etc. for both the 75 day mark for 1st time cruisers and also onboard the boat, though it is not only a pain to take care of that business onboard but the slots are limited...not the best days and times. On both of my previous cruises I had to go wait in the Palo line, and it wasn't too bad. It took about 30 minutes and we did eventually get slots on the days we wanted but not the times we wanted. So all hope is not lost if you don't book at 90. You could always pop back in at 75 and try then too. Of course if you have excursions planned that are likely to be super popular (Dolphins, Stingrays, etc.) I would try to get those booked ASAP. Maybe you could leave you DH a nice complicated list (all mine are, heh!) to help guide him through booking choices.

I think on this cruise the 90 day mark is going to be crazy.

All of us at 12:00 am EST 6/29/08=:surfweb:

Good luck!!!

If this is correct, we won't be the 1st ones back on the Magic after dry dock after all.

:(

Well, just for kicks and giggles, I went on the DCL site and sure enough there is a 3-day trip on the Magic. I would love to book it and extend my trip to a 10-day but that would mean I'd have to cut our excursions, alcohol and the spa for the 7-day - Like that's going to happen:lmao:

Great minds must think alike because as soon as I saw that I was thinking the same thing:laughing:

OK...I asked my DBF the question of the week:

DBF - Homebrewed Iced Tea in a glass full of ice.

Me - Diet Coke!!!!! :)

Grand Cayman??? Ugh.

Was not that impressed. Hate Tendering. Also when we went it was like 1.25 US dollars to a GC dollar.

Are we going to GC first or Cozumel first?

I wish it was Key West actually.

If we goto Cozumel first I will sit on board and drink the Platinum Bottle of Patron Tequila I plan on getting in Cozumel.

Would you mind some company??????????
Love Tequila
