HI Everyone! Just wanted to share this info for those of you who don't have plane tickets yet - of course, if you are paying full price, have a refundable ticket, or have Premier mileage, it doesn't apply - here is an email I got from UAL:

Dear Tammie Manfull, I regret to learn about your disappointment with our new baggage policy. Please know that customers who purchase non-refundable domestic economytickets and do not have at least Premier status in mileage plus orsilver status with star alliance may check one bag for free and a secondbag for a 25.00 dollar service fee. Our new baggage policy simplifiesthe checked bags process for our customer service employees at thecheck-in counter, leading to increased efficiency. We also believe thatthis new policy may decrease the frequency of overweight bags - a safetyand workload benefit for ramp Employees. We look forward to serving you soon. Regards, Liza MohanUnited Airlines Customer Relations In order to serve you better, we would like to collect your feedback onyour experience with us today. :sad2: My in-laws live in Denver (United has a hub there) but quit flying United entirely a few years ago as the sevrice kept slipping and slipping (more so than with the industry as a whole). I really don't get their statement in the email that they think this will DECREASE heavy bags. It would seem to me that if people are trying to stuff everything into just one bag now that they used to be able to put into 2 that the bags will get heavier, not lighter:confused3 I am sorry you are having to deal with this.

Thanks! I don't have a ticket yet - I just heard a rumor, so went to the source. I agree about the weight of one bag vs. two. Another group of DISers said the same thing. If your bag is overweight, you are charged $25 - wouldn't you rather pay $25 to pull one bag, or $25 to deal with two? AND Why would only the economy passengers have heavier bags?

I will just fly Delta or Horizon from here - I like Delta, anyway. :thumbsup2

.....I really don't get their statement in the email that they think this will DECREASE heavy bags......

That's exACTly what I was going to say!

I heard about this on the news earlier this week as well. Just as the reporter pointed out, it will be interesting to see if other airlines follow suit or if they will wait to see if United has a fall-out because of it. The reporter also indicated that one reason for this new policy was related to fuel costs. If they have less luggage, the planes will use less fuel. Then if someone wants/needs that 2nd piece of luggage, they get paid to put it onboard. :sad2:

:rotfl2:

I actually captured some shots of the Magic on Saturday from the webcams! I posted them on their Meets thread. Very cool to know I "virtually personally" know someone who will appreciate them!

Deana DID decide to go??? COOL!! I didn't even know that! Last I recall her posting, several of you were still giving her a hard time for not signing up already! :rotfl: I know she was still working on convincing the DH!! She CLEARLY has great negotiation skills! hehe

No I think you're thinking of a diff. Deana.....there is our friend from the repo "DizneyDAnn" who is a Deanna but she is not coming. Deana (I may be spelling the name wrong) is Chris' friend in Vegas and she is coming...I think she should already be on your list....sh is traveling with her bf and her parents are also on the ship...adn maybe her grandmother?? I can't recall completely.

Except the fine print stated the price for overweight bags went up to $200/bag. Seeing as they have a weight limit on the first bag, one way or another, you'll be paying more to fly United with 2 bags. :headache:

Have I mentioned how much I prefer Frontier today??? DH talked me into flying back from the May cruise with Ted + Economy Plus with a one way ticket, and the first version of this press release stated we would be paying extra, even though we had bought our tickets prior to Feb. 4th (they had a logic error).

I don't like United since they stranded people for over a week; Hadley, with your family near Denver, do you remember that fiasco????

Can you post a pic of your fish extender?? I would love to see what it looks like!

Here it is:

Thanks for sharing your FE picture! Looks awesome....I can't wait to fill the FEs with my little surprises. This is greatness!:goodvibes

On the subject of the United bag thingy--DH and I always fly American and I was shocked when I saw a sign at the Orlando Airport that said 1 bag limit. We had a big debate whether or not I really saw that sign, because DH says "Nobody limits you to 1 bag. That's not industry standard."

Sure enough, a few days after we got home, the United 1 Bag story hit the news & I knew THAT must have been the sign I saw.

I sure hope other airlines don't follow suit. United will have to pull this policy if others don't jump on board & do it too. Seems like such fuzzy logic they're using...

We actually got rid of two suitcases DH bought a few years ago. They are simply too big to pack & keep under the 50lb limit (for no extra charge). Our other big suitcases we use, when fully packed, clock in just around 50lbs, so I always weigh them on our scales before we leave & rearrange items to make sure no one suitcase is over. I'd hate to have to start shuffling through undies & bras to find the books I stashed in a too-heavy suitcase at the airport!!:scared1:

It will be interesting to see how the luggage issue plays out with other airlines.

On another topic: Is there any news on the mission participation? I think we signed up for donating items to the mission, & being the obsessive sale-searcher I am, I wanted to start looking for things on sale to bring with us.

Problem is, I don't remember who was organizing it or what we were collecting! :confused3 Anyone want to help this poor ditzy Mom?

Charlie, I love you family's FE!! :fish:

We got our passports today!!! It took one day shy of 2 weeks and we didn't even pay to expedite them! Now we are official!

Tequila Afficianado eh?

Well if there is a group of people with a similiar draw to Tequila, I am quite interested in trying Patron Platinum. It is $39 a shot at the Quiet Cove bar.

But a bottle could probably be had for $150 to $175 at the duty free store if a group wants to split it. We could comandeer some shot glasses.

It is a 750ml bottle.
Disney probably pours a shot and a half in their shot glasses so 50 ml each.

So we could get about 15 shots out of it.
At Disney price that is $39 x 15 x 18% = $690.30

Not bad...
Then we could have a contest for the Crystal Bottle.

How much does it go for in a regular liquor store? This is way out of my league..........I'll leave DH to this one!

Thanks for the dancing smilie face.........you're always right there to cheer us all on !! YEAH DISNEY!!!!YEAH CRUISE!!!

About the fish extenders........does anyone have standard dimensions for them? I was going to try my hand at making my own with the sewing machine!

Now to file the taxes so we can get our refund so we can pay off the rest of the cruise!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great night everyone!!!

Tammie I read that a few days ago about United that totally stinks. I'm always a 2 bag traveler. I will be really bummed if'n NWA follows suit.

OMG. I have had overweight bags before by like a pound or two and thankfully never been charged...mostly because the other bag was under the limit so they saved me from tossing stuff from one to the next, but a lot of the reason I like two bags is that I can pack one partially full and use it for souvineers on the way home. Not to mention I like to be prepared when I travel and do pack a lot of things:rolleyes1

I am hoping there's a backlash and they recind the policy. Glad to know it's now $200 for an overweight bag. Next thing you know, they'll weigh the passengers :lmao:

As for the mission, I don't remember that, but I was MIA a few times - we did talk about an excursion with David and Ivan in Costa Maya to bring school supplies to the children. I am really interested in that, although Ryan and Dana may go on that one while we babysit - she has a box of toothbrushes and toothpaste to bring - she's a dental hygenest (sp?) I am going to pick up some pencils and notebooks - maybe some construction paper and glue sticks?

What is the general dimensions of a fish extender? My DW wants to make one.

Count me in for some Tequila.

The FEs that I've made have averaged 8.5" wide and 32" long, and those measurements are for the fabric itself.

The key is to be cautious on the overall width, which includes the rod it would hang from. The reason to be careful that it doesn't go any more than approx 10" wide is because it won't properly lean against the wall. The pic below, which will look very familiar to someone on our thread, demonstrates best what I'm referring to. Do you see that the silver fish is on a wall that is angled? That's why you want to be careful of the width. I don't have the EXACT measurement of that wall, but I would try your best to stay at 9.5" wide with the rod.

Without looking, I seem to recall that in Post 6 there are some links to FE chats we've had, which include other's measurements. So check that out, too (it is under the "Roll Call Submission" section).

Kimberly is right....the picture she shows is the ideal width....however, if for some reason you make a wider one...it will actually fit. I went way overboard when I made my fish extender....it's very wide and has a wipe board and everything. Mine is 13 inches wide and it fit EXACTLY on the door when we were on the boat last.

It's Time to Think about Fish Extenders!!
18992.gif
It's so funny that there is this much chatter about FE's tonight because I had planned to create a reminder post this evening to sign your family/friends up for the FE Fun.

I know many people have started looking at things to purchase or make (myself included), so if we can begin to get a vision for the number of people interested in participating, it will help those of us who are planning our surprises now. Obviously you can add yourself later, but it would be great if you are already certain that we could get you and your family added.

So check out the current list on our website, and if you're not on the list and would like to be, just follow the instructions posted!

Understand that at some point, the Fish Extenders Forum will have controlled access to only those who will be participating in the goodie exchange (similar to what we're doing with the Kids' Meets Forum). The reason behind this is because we want to ensure that there's that added layer of protection to keep your Stateroom Number confidential as well as knowledge if a particular stateroom has children in it or not.
