Ugh! I was looking all over Disney for a Grumpy sweatshirt that had a full zipper. Went into every store, World of Disney, Emporium, the whole strip at DHS....
Then I was in the gift shop in POFQ picking up packages that I had sent to resort... and there it was! A beautiful grey Grump hoodie, full zip in DH's size! Didn't even look at the price, I just bought it on the spot!
I usually throw my receipts away as I'm packing to leave because I don't tend to buy high cost items and I'm not exactly going to be able to drive over and return or exchange... but something told me to hold onto this one!
Good thing! When I got home and gave it to DH, he loved it. One problem. The CM had forgotten to remove the security ink tag... you know, the one that will ruin your garment if you try to remove it yourself?
So, I sat on hold forever (waited 20 minutes on hold this morning... and then my house had a power failure... dropped the call on my cordless phone!... then got power back at lunch - another long wait on hold).
Turns out the only way to handle this is for Disney to email me a shipping label, then I have to box up the sweatshirt with a copy of the receipt and take it all to UPS... ship it to Disney, they will remove the tag and ship it back.
Lesson learned! Check all of your items before you leave Florida to avoid any potential for this kind of hassle!

I would honestly take it (with the receipt) to the mall and see if any of the stores have the same tag system and can remove it. :confused3 I worked in retail for 10+ years and we would gladly help if we had the right remover and the customer had the receipt. It's worth a shot imo.

Others recently posted they found directions on YouTube when they ran a search for removing security tags. They didn't have to deal with Disney or shipping at all.

to respond - there is no Disney store near me. The mall is the same distance as the UPS store (yes, we live in a pretty rural area).
I did look at youtube and they do have instructional videos, but they involve vices and hacksaws and if I mess it up I have no recourse....
So, anyway you look at it, fixing the issue is a hassle. I have it in a box with the copy of receipt. Waiting for the email with the shipping label to show up. Hopefully I can run it to UPS tomorrow while taking care of some other errands...
But I REALLY wish I had noticed it while I was standing at the counter in Disney!

We had this happen once too! The Disney Store uses a different ink tag, so they couldn't take it off. We tried a few other major stores in the mall, and none of them had the same ink tag system. We ended up just waiting until our next trip (which thankfully was only a few months later) and bringing the item back with us to get it removed.

This just happened to me too. Got back with a hat with a security tag still on it. They shipped me a label and shipped back the hat no problem. Didnt pay for shipping or anything. It was pretty painless actually.
Get the label
Send via UPS
get hoodie back sans security tag.

I thought it was pretty good customer service.

PS I didnt have the receipt either. Just told them where and when I bought it.

It happened to me I went to the Disney Store by me they did not have the right way to get it but the manager took me to Pennys & they did.

Semi off subject, but I can't believe they have you tube videos on how to remove them. Guess it shouldn't surprise me much, but really?? Do you think this is for the innocent person who accidently takes an item home with a tag on it? Not likely.

I will be sure to make sure our tags are removed before leaving Disney World from now on. Thanks for the warning OP!

Did they email you the label? Do you remember how long it took to get it? I spoke to them today at lunch time, it's going on 5 pm now and I still haven't received the email with the shipping label...

Check your spam or junk mail because sometimes shipping labels get diverted from your main mailbox.

That was a good idea ... Just checked and no luck. I guess if it's not here by morning I'll sit on hold again and double check what they wrote down for my email address.

I think it's UPS that generates the Return Label so it probably will get done tomorrow. I returned an item (not Disney) through UPS and Customer Service had to send the request to UPS. UPS provides the Tracking Number etc. along with the emailed Label.

Sorry I had them just mail it to me. It took longer but I wasnt in a rush. The box I shipped to them spent a week in the car driving around so I guess wit wouldn't have mattered that the email didn't get to me immediately.

The email comes from UPS. I think just like waiting for UPS to update their shipping info you kind of have to give them 1 business day.

Also the label had a persons name on it not a general address. It was tracked specifically to my issue and shipped back quickly. They process the request really quickly.

I order almost all of our clothes online and I frequently receive items with the security ink tag still attached. Sometimes its from Kohl's, or Old Navy, or the Gap, and once it was from Amazon. Nothing criminal about it. I have also paid for items inside the store and had the ink tags still on it when I got home. Its a major pain to have to bring stuff back.

JcPenny took one off a Disney sweatshirt for me last year!

Same thing happened to me with one of those tote bags you could get with a certain $ amount spent in the gift shop. I took it to our local JC Pennys. The woman didn't want to help me at first but I pointed out that it had a tag that said DisneyWorld exclusive item so there was no way I was stealing it from the store. She looked sheepish and then took off the tag for me :)

Same, when I steal clothes I find that jc penny and macys are the most receptive to removing the ink tags. Best of luck
