Double booking ADRs???

This is a touchy subject. But some say it okay for Disney to cancel any ADR book close by. I change my mind at times but when I call dining I tell them I have a ADR at this place for this time but want to cancel it & change it to another place. The CM tells me first we check & see if we have that place & time you want first then if so they book it & then go back and cancel the other one.
Last year I had three trips planned & everytime I called in to make my ADR's I would tell dining this. Well a CM saw that I had many ADR's & cancel all of them. When I called to cancel one I found out what they did; let say being mad isn't the word for how I felt. They had no right to do so since my trips were months apart & they should have looked at the dates. I talked to a supervisor & explain it to him & he asked if I by chance had a copy of all my ADR's which I did. Told him I wanted them back same place same time as it wasn't my doing but theirs. He agreed & got them all back but one but he gave us a free dining at Nacroosee's for their mistake. I am was shocked but didn't ask for this but it was a nice touch. My point being if you double book Disney should be sure it isn't for another trip. many people have vacations book a month apart or even weeks apart ( lucky) but I never would double book unless dining tell me it is okay for some strange reason. This only happen once as DH was in Iraq & we are going to Disney in May 2008 & I wanted a certain place but wasn't sure if he would wanted that instead of the place I had before I decided on another place. She asked when would the next time I would hear from him. I told him early the next day. She said fine we will hold both of them until I heard back from him. She made a note & told me to ask for her when I called or her supervisor. As luck had it I heard back from him that night so I was able to call back & cancel with the CM I talked to. So there is a story behind everything. BUT I DO UNDERSTAND WHERE PEOPLE ARE COMING FROM

Another thing to consider is that on Disney website in the dining section there is a disclaimer that a cancellation fee will be charged on all reservations not cancelled with in a specified time frame.... not sure what the details are and how they are going to enforce but worth asking about when you make reservations... I'd hate to get charged for example $10 a head for cancelling Crytal Palace on the day of my ressie because i couldnt make it or was too tired and chose counter service instead.... my guess is Disney is instuiting a policy to protect the servers.... if you dont show it affects their take home because they now have empty tables that may or may not be filled

Are you sure this is accurate? I know some of the ADRs do that, like if you don't show to CRT you pay the whole thing anyway, Cali Grill and a few others have charges (akershus, hoop de hoo, and a few others I'm sure), but for MOST ADRs they don't even take any credit card info, so how could they charge you? Not to mention when you make ADRs for a place where they need your CC info, the CMs make sure you know you need to cancel within (usually) 48 hours of the time, but then they keep quiet for all the other places.

Shame on those of you that think it is OK to double book ADR without ANY thought to those of us that get shut out of everything that we would like....even when we call at the 180 mark!

I always get annoyed with those who think that they should be above the social graces set forth by Disney........

I read on this board about the person that wanted to know if it was "OK" that he booked an early CP breakfast just to get into the park early and get a few pictures before the park actually opened and had NO intentions on showing up for his meal..........didn't even care that there would be that $10 per person charge...........I mean really...........

If you can't make up your mind where you want to eat............then my suggestion is either pick a place or DON'T make the ADR! Have a little courtisy for the other guests!

I agree it is hard to know what you will be in the mood for on a day 6 months out. But we have booked and never been disappointed. Double booking is not right, by taking a spot someone else may dearly love to have.

I first saw the info here on the DIS. I went to Disney.go.com and looked under dining and under "additional information" for EVERY table service resturant is the disclaimer " A cancellation policy applies and may result in charges if you cancel with insufficient notice. Special policies related to this facility will be detailed at the time of reservation booking."

I stated before that I didnt know how Disney would track and enforce this apparently new policy. The EXAMPLE of $10/head was my thoughts on the subject and just an example. I could see in the future, a credit card hold being necessary for any dining reservation to discourage the "no shows". BUT all of what was just stated was my opinion and my inferences on the new policy and nothing more.

And I also agree to double book is wrong.

Just double checked- and it looks like the table service that are on the Dining Plan have that disclaimer but when I looked at Rainforest Cafe and Portobello Yacht Club the disclaimer is not listed- so.... maybe this is something new or something to come with the Dining Plan resturants- I had previously only checked the table service that are on the dining plan since those are the ones I visit.

I don't recommend it.They cancelled my neighbors duplicate ressies on her and she had no idea which one.Plus it is rude and inconsiderate of others who do decide where to eat 6mos in advance and now can;t because you have 2 ressies, one of which you won't be using.

I was told by a CM that they would cancel ALL my ressies if I had any meals double booked. (i had one double--fantasmic package for 6 and another restaurant for 2 . (They were 4 hours apart!) We were trying to get one of them on a different day. . . but not availble. So I was trying to get a booking for the empty night before canceling one of those.
After she told me they would cancel ALL the ressies, I canceled one immediately.
I understand the idea of canceling one of the ressies if there is a double booking. It isn't fair to sit on tables you are going to use. Don't I know it. We can't get a lot of what we are trying for. . .

I hear ya! they did oonly cancel one of my neighbors adrs.Problem was they did not tell her which ones and most of them were in various other parks and or resorts and she ended up missing both because she didn't know.I did try to warn her.

I'm a newbie so before posting here I asked my travel agent about booking a back up reservation for two nights of my stay.

She said that they as a travel agency can not double book but she has clients who book some ADRs seperately under a different family member's name and a cell phone number...(since they track ADRs by name and telephone number...)

I would think the CMs would figure this out though since they also ask when you are arriving, where you're staying and your last name would be the same. Wouldn't they put 2 and 2 together to see that you are double booking??? Doesn't make sense to me. I certainly wouldn't want to chance having all of my reservations cancelled. I told my travel agent about the responses on this thread and she said she's never heard of cancellations for her clients? It would be nice if Disney would come up with an official policy to make it clear to everyone that double booking is not ok!

I called today to change some of my dining ressies and the issue of double booking came up.

I originally had a ressie for 4 people at the San Angel Inn. I wanted to change that to 2 people at the San Angel and 2 people at the Garden Grill.

In order to do this, I had to list each ressie under a different name that is on my reservation- the san angel inn is under my daughter's name and the garden grill is under my name.

At first she acted like this was going to be a problem and put me on hold to check on something and then came back to the phone and rearranged my reservations for me.

Does Disney "allow" booking two restaurants for the same night? I was able to do it but am not sure what the policy is or if other people have done this??? When I get to the hotel and they print out my reservations and see that I've done this will I be chastised?

The problem is...our trip is 6 months away! How can I possibly know for sure where we'll want to eat every single day???

For example...after spending all day at the Animal Kingdom we may go to Downtown Disney and eat at CapNJacks if we have energy left over...or if we're tired we may just want to eat close to our hotel at Chef Mickey's.

I'm scared that if I don't have a reservation we'll be SOL

Please let me know what everyone thinks of this...or if you've done it...

Double book....we were just there last week and made back up reservation while we were there and even told the dining rep that is what we were doing, he didn't care!

Not saying if its ok or not ok!
The Reservation person said not to worry about it if you forget to cancel a reservation.
We told them where we were booked the one night and he booked us another place based on his suggestion. we asked him if we needed to cancel one then he said no don't worry about it just choose which on we wanted the next morning. If we remembered to call in the morning to cancel one so be it. Don't fret upon it!

To be honest I have changed a lot of my adr's since I started planning my trip and learned so much about the restaurants from reviews etc...

The cm's have all been very nice and tried to get me a new adr at my new choice before I had to cancel the old one...thought that was very nice!

Only adr I haven't been able to get was Le Cellier, I may start calling every day trying to get an opening though.

This is really confusing!

Are there any disney employees out there who know if Disney will cancel reservations without letting people know? Or does it just depend on whether or not you get or nice vs. crabby CM

I don't currently have any double bookings if what I asked to be cancelled was cancelled but now I'm paranoid...

I think basically the general consensus here is double booking should not be done a. so you don't run the risk of losing ADR's and not knowing which ones and b. for the general consideration of others who would like to eat at a TS restaurant. I would say 90-95% of the posters on the board feel double booking is very wrong and inconsiderate and therefore do not do it.

You can also call disney dining while your staying there and see what other resturants might have an opening for that day. We have done this before.
