Double booked cancellations

. . . And yes, this is practice for Disney to cancel double ADR's and it is a good policy. How were they to know you only wanted dessert? You were double booked and the rule is not to double book . . .

1) Double booking is big problem.
2) Make that a huge problem.
3) It halts others from making reservations.
4) Canceling a doubled reservation makes sense.
5) Been there, did that.

I now will quote from page 308 of 'Walt Disney World With Kids, 2008':

"Insider's secret:

You can make multiple reservations for different restaurants at the same time, although it's bad form not to cancel the others once you've made up your mind which restaurant to attend. Also, there's no penalty for not showing up for a reservation, except at some experiences like the Once Upon a Time character meals, where a credit card deposit is required. As a rule, it's better to overbook than underbook, especially if you're traveling at a busy time."

With printed advice like this in current guidebooks, it's no wonder that WDW is having to take a stand. And I'd hate to be the CM at CRT facing the family waving a copy of that guidebook around, saying that they were told they could double book and it was OK!

That said . . .

Instead of canceling, it seems like it would make more sense to have something in place that would keep double bookings from being made in the first place. Like if you go to book a 9pm LeCellier, something would pop up that alerts the CM you already have an 8pm Crystal Palace for that same night.

As it is, there is nothing out there in print that tells you that ADRs will be cancelled if you double book, and I've never had a CM tell me about that policy. So, if they really are canceling peoples ADRs without any notice, I would imagine that lots of angry people are going to be showing up at restaurant podiums - which is a situation that I would think Disney would want to avoid.

I have double booked on a couple of occasions at the 180 mark but always call to cancel the extra one way prior to our trip. It is difficult to make them at 180 but if you don't you won't get what you want. I currently have 2 dinners booked one nite for our December trip but will be calling to cancel one of them tomorrow. I just hope they didn't cancel them on me already.

I had Teppanyaki on 9/10, and the special dining CM got me CR instead. I asked her to leave the Teppanyaki ADR in case by some miracle it did open in Sept. I think she said something to me about them still being able to look it up, even if it was cancelled, but I don't recall how we left off. Will my CR be cancelled if I have Teppanyaki still booked?

OK, I'm a newbie and I apologize for not quite knowing all the WDW etiquette but apparently I have double booked. I have the same restaurant booked for lunch and dinner, and another restaurant booked for dinner also. I am not sure which ADR will fit into our schedule just yet.

So, after reading this thread (and only then realizing that it's probably not right) I freaked out and thought that they had maybe been cancelled. When I called, they were all still reserved. I explained the situation to the CM and asked if I would be cancelled for overbooking. She said "she would not touch them", that they were "no problem". She would keep all 3 for the same day. She basically asked that I at least cancel at some point (rather than no show).

And yes...I will cancel in the next day or two. Just as soon as I figure things out.

frannn: You have no problem. Aside from Disney obviously not being able to honor your Teppansomething reservation , with your telephone number the CM can see your HISTORY of dining reservations. Actually, all your reservations. Everything you made, everything you changed, everything you cancelled, tours, I'd think cruises - everything. The CM I talked to last week only seemed to see the information for my upcoming trip, but I bet they can pull up every visit...

mouse&moose: Your 'lunch and dinner for the same restaurant and day' is not a double booking. Your two dinners for the same day are, but the CM has already told you they would not be canceled (editorial comment: for now)
