Dorney Park After 5 pm

Would five hours in the evening be enough time for my daughter and me to experience the major rides at Dorney Park? The last time I was there was before she was born (16 yrs ago). We will be doing college visits in the area, so either have to go after 5 pm or do the full day option the next day, which obviously would cost a bit more. We primarily would want to do the coasters and other major rides...no spinning things and no kiddie stuff. It looks doable, but just wondering if someone with practical experience could confirm. This would be a Thursday evening, not a weekend evening. Thanks.

I think so. I haven't been in years, but Dorney isn't that big. And if your not doing the water park, and only the thrill rides, you should be fine.

What colleges are you visiting?

We have done this many times when the kids were younger and we had season passes. Most of the out of town busses are leaving the park by 6 pm. You will want to verify the park hours - in late August they start to close at 7 pm. When are you coming?

Thanks Lisa and Marcy. We are going to be there next Thursday evening, and if I read the website correctly, Dorney closes at 10 that evening. I will plan out the rides we really want not to miss and hit those first. (Sounds like Disney planning.)

We are really only visiting one PA college this trip, Univ. of Scranton. First up to Binghampton, then over to Ithaca, then Scranton. Dorney is on the way home. I'm on vacation for two weeks, and we are visiting eight schools during these two weeks---will have visited 16 I think in all by the time all this is over. I know she'd really like schools like Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, and Lehigh or Lafayette (I forget right now which is which), but all of them require financial info and support from her non-custodial father, and that just isn't going to happen. We could try for a waiver, but I'd rather she just pick one that only requires my financial info. Not to worry, though. She has a clear favorite. I dragged her to it in April; she didn't want to go. I told her it looked like a perfect match for her, and she did fall in love with it. It's in a very famous Civil War town in PA where Lincoln gave a famous speech. Luckily, although she doesn't really want to attend, we also visited our state flagship this weekend and she conceded she would be okay with going there, so if Gburg doesn't give us enough aid, she will have a place to go. She already has at least a half tuition scholarship there she won last year as a junior. Alternately, she has guaranteed free tuition at Bama---I'm trying to convince her to consider it, at least.

Whew. Sorry. Far more than you wanted to know, I'm sure-it's just that we are a bit consumed with this whole college decision thing.

Wow..you've been busy! My niece just graduated from Dickinson this year. My DH works at Lehigh (part time right now...hoping for full time soon...free tuition after five years!! )

We'll be doing the whole college shopping routine in about a year...lucky us! lol

You should be fine with an evening for Dorney Park THrill Rides.

I went to school (many years ago) very close to there at Cedar Crest College. We spent many a fun evening at Dorney Park.

We would ususally hit Talon first since its the closest coaster to the entrance, then over to Hydra, then go all the way to Steel Force at the far end of the park. If you can, avoid eating there because the food is really pricy. Close by there is a McDonalds, Perkins, Friendly's, TGI Fridays and similar places. Have a great time, and good luck with the college search. My oldest son starts his freshman year at Temple University in two weeks.

We were there Sunday. We got there at 7. We hit all the big rides and had dinner by 10.

What does your DH do at Lehigh? My DD9 has attended swim clinics there and she would love to go there someday! We live between Lehigh and Dorney Park!

He's been working in the computer/ A/V department since February. They hired him when he was laid off from his full-time job. He was hired back by his former company two months after lay-off, but they decreased his salary mad. Lehigh really wanted him to stay on, so he is working both jobs. The department supervisors really want him there full time, but the trustees are the ones who make those decisions. Hopefully some day! He really loves the job and the people!
