I've read that the dormer rooms are smaller. Does anyone have specific info, comparisons, or pictures about this? I booked a garden view in an outer building which I believe means Boca Chica or Bine Pine Key. I requested a top floor room, but, now I am worried that I will get a "dormer" room that is smaller. We are looking forward to our first stay at GF as a splurge and don't want to be disappointed in the room.

The rooms are somewhat smaller, but what I really don't like is the balcony. It's tiny and has a solid wall. Sitting you just stare at a wall. To see anything you must stand up. Since I enjoy sitting on the balcony and enjoy my morning coffee, and evening glass of wine, I want a balcony I can see out of.
Why do you want a top floor room? Is there any particular reason? A 3rd or 4th room would be nice too. Although it is possible to get a dormer on the 4th fl too. The 3 rooms to the left of our room on 4th floor were dormers. They were at the end. We were in Big Pine. I always request "no dormer, upper floor".
We also had a very nice 2nd floor room n Boca Chica.

Do all rooms in the outer buildings have balconies?

Yep, my biggest issue with dormer rooms are the balconies. They gave us one in 2014, and fortunately they moved us. My daughter kept wanting to stand on a chair to see over, which wasn't going to happen.

They are smaller, and I think they feel smaller. But I detest the balconies!!!!

One big upside for dormer rooms is that they are a bit taller, and their atmosphere is quite unique.

We also liked the fact the the balcony gives a somewhat private and cozy feeling to our room.
