Having owned in the past (300 pts @ BWV and 310 @ OKW) I was just about ready to jump back in using the referral incentives (my sister is still a member from when I referred her). 225 points with 160 developer points @ $96 per point at AKV sounded OK. Then, yesterday, I hear that folks attending the Doorway To Dreams promotion this past weekend (ended today?) at the Woodfield Mall near Chicago got an offer that included:

$96 per point net ($104 - $8 incentive) at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas
$94 per point net ($104 - $10 incentive) at Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

PLUS

110 - 159pt add-on at SSR or AKV: 100 Developer's Points
160 - 199 pt add-on at SSR or AKV: 160 Developer's Points
200+ pt add on at SSR or AKV: 270 Developer's Points

PLUS

Two adult WDW Annual Pass vouchers OR $500 Disney gift card

Now that I have seen this (much) better deal, the current standard incentives don't look as good and, as a result, I do not want to buy in unless I could get that same deal.

Am I wrong to feel this way? :confused3

EDIT: By the way, this offer is not just for existing owners, it is for anyone who walks into the Woodfield Mall DVC store through the end of February.

Well you dont own DVC anymore so why do you think that you should be able to get the incentives like that? They are add on incentives to DVC members not to members that decided they wanted to sale.
I am not being mean but I dont understand why you think you deserve this.

I guess the reason is precedent. They have done this in the past for prior owners (according to my DVC rep).

And, deserving or not was not the point I was trying to make. It's just that once I see a much better deal out there (even one I can't get), it takes the luster off of the deal I can get.

I agree these are add ons and the only thing from my understanding that they added for Chicago visit was the APs. Which don't get me wrong is nice.

Well if you dont want to pay that much them why dont you just get a resale and be done with it.If you are not happy paying that much for the contract then resale would be the way to go.

Can't add much to the discussion other than I agree with the sentiment.

I assume these sort of offers are designed to prompt a spur-of-the-moment sale. I doubt most of the people walked into the receptions convinced an add-on was in their immediate future. Instead many were probably wowed by the event and the $500-700 value of the added bonus, and perhaps made a hasty decision to jump in.

It's too bad DVC doesn't run a 48-hour sale, or some other brief bonus incentive that those of us not in Chicago or on a Disney Cruise can take advantage of.

I think that the deal you have been offered is a good one. It is better than the one I received last summer, but that's OK with me. You could always try to ask your guide about the free APs, what could it hurt?

I think it is great that you are planning on jumping back in.

AKV is going to be incredible!

Thanks AKV707!! I appreciate your understanding what I was saying. AKV looks great and is one which I would love as a home resort - that is why the suggestion of a resale does not appeal to me. Do you have any reservations about the new buildings being separated from the existing resort and their restaurants?

If you want AKV you should look at both the resales for it and what Disney is offering.

The doorway to dreams is in chicago and you need to go there to purchase.
They are doing a little more aggressive incentives there because they have made a significant investment there. Plus they are in Chicago not selling from a stand in Disney, it's gotta be tough. They gotta take advantage of incentives to draw people in there.

They have the AKV studio and one bedroom mock up. Flat screen TV's child care etc. It's really nice and if you ever get to Chicago it's a must see.

The event you referred to was for members only we went and did purchase add on's. People from this board have flew in to take advantage of the offer.

I'm sure they will offer more incentives in the future. If the Chicago store is successful I'm sure they will open more stores in other major cities.

DVC has also offered exclusive incentives to purchase to those on the Disney Cruise Line as well. Apparently, there is also some exclusive incentive available to those who are purchasing via Disneyland as they will be given first dibs when Grand Californian goes on sale.

I have seen incentives come and go, but the best thing I did was buy as early on as possible because the price has just kept going up and up irregardless of whatever incentives have been offered over time.

.

I don't think that buying AKV resale is that great a deal right now. Unless you are able to get a small add on at resale. The price difference will not be that significant. The closing costs might be higher with resale. You will also have to wait longer for your points.

If you buy direct from DVC, you will receive your points as soon as you pay your deposit. If it is an add on, there are no closing costs. If it is an initial buy in, there are incentives that will get the price down to resale level.

Yes buying early as possible makes the most sense. The prices for points just keep going up and up. The resales hold their value due to Disney's policy to buy the points if being sold too cheap.

Bottom Line: You need to do what's best for you and your family, you owned 600ppts that's like $60k today. AKV will get you 15 more years then the resorts you use to own.

Good luck

I was told by my DVC rep that our closing costs would be just over $300?:confused3

They have started charging closing costs on the initial purchase but then if you add on through DVC then there is no closing costs.

We are going to join at AKV within a week or two. I called DVC and started this whole process, we didn't visit DVC at Disney. I can get the same deal as above, but without the 2 AP. I don't think it's fair either. I live in NY and so I feel kind of penalized because I don't live near Chicago. I think they should offer the 2 AP to all of us!!!!!!!!! It's just like I walked into a DTD and told them I wanted to buy. So give me my darn passes!!!!

Now I feel better!!!! LOL

I complained about this in a post a couple of weeks ago. I still don't think that it is right. I Made my feelings known to upper management. I still haven't heard anything.
