Door Sign Envy?

Using the encouragement on this board, I made a door sign for our cruise on the Magic this week. Several people have made nice comments about it. We happen to be in a Cat 3 room and some have asked if that's a perk of the room but I explain it all...and try to send them here to find out more.

Tonight I had a message which came from another guest room...although the person speaking claimed to be the concierge. The message was that "other guests had commented that our room was 'decorated strange' and would we please take down the sign." Surprised, I called guest services and I have to say, they handled it beautifully. The rep I spoke with retrieved and listened to the message and called me back to assure me that the sign was not a problem and the message was definitely not from the concierge. She said she was embarrassed that this had happened. She also refererred the call to Security for follow-up because they can access the room number from the call. Last, she made me feel great when she commented that her first thought upon hearing my story was "Who the hell do they think they are?"

I like this lady. :cheer2:

Surprising, though, that an innocent sign (just a simple Disney border, our family name and the date) would upset someone enough to do this. Or, perhaps it was bored teenagers? In any case, my sign stays up (but I took down my little Mickey head paint chip magnets, just in case these people get bored again and wander off with them.) :guilty:

I had some magnets stolen from our door one cruise. I also had my 83 year old aunts's wheelchair stolen and security found it hours later 4 decks down and on the other side of the ship....

I am sure it was just some bored teens.....

Glad you kept your sign up!!!

On our last cruise we didn't have any trouble with our room signs (since they had our name and pictures on them so who would want them). However a room down the hall from us had brought magnetic letters (the colorful plastic ones) to spell out holiday greetings. I walked past one early morning and found that someone had changed all the words around to swear words.

Very sad when people can't respect others property.

What a nut job!!

It's a good thing they weren't on the May repo cruise. There were probably more doors that were decorated than not. They'd be spending all of their time making phone calls. :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I can't belive that someone would do something so silly.
I'm glad that you thought to call Guest Services and that they were able to help you the way that they were. It's almost a little scary to think that someone would so something so silly!

How rediculous!!! :( On our last cruise there were many more door decorations that we thought there would be. We have always received positive comments from CMs & other guests about them. When it was DS's birthday everyone would wish him a happy birthday too. :) A couple people have told me that our door helps them & their kids find their room too.

Now I know I haven't even cruised yet, but what gets me the most about this is how someone can be this kind of person in the middle of a vacation. If you want to be uptight and pinched up, save it for a work week ;) Sorry you had to go through that.

I was also saddened by the stories of changing the words to cuss words, stealing magnets and a WHEELCHAIR?! If it was kids or teenagers as is suspected (*cough* or drunk adults) it just irritates me. When I was a kid, we had practically nothing: no money and no familial cohesiveness. I would have killed for our parents to have had the ability (or interest) for us to vacation together, let alone on a cruise. But despite all of that, I never once would have thought of doing those sort of things (I know some people might call those things harmless, but can I say again...a WHEELCHAIR?!).

I have to wonder what is going on with kids like that who can't even be happy enough, or appreciative enough, on a Disney Cruise to not go out of their way to mess things up for some innocent person. Whether there is something bad going on with their family or they just don't appreciate the value of what they have been given, it's simply very sad.

We put ALOT of stuff on our door (see our pic on the door sign thread) and I fully expected to have stuff taken...sad comment on our day and age.

We ended up leaving the boat w/ALL our door signs (which I found amazing) and the DIS doortag sign that I had made for all of us!

Only two incidents we had...1 where someone wrote a message in greek on our dry erase board (we asked for a translation on the board and got back "its all greek to me") and 1 morning where a little boy was admiring our door and decided to knock to tell me so (his mother was mortified when I opened the door).

If I were the mom I'd be mortified too - if his knocking on the door had disturbed the residents (or worse, woke them up!!). :)

Yeah ... but its kind of sweet :goodvibes He liked it and wanted to tell her so, he didn't no he was disturbing ... the innocence of a child :goodvibes

Remember Susan Powder? STOP THE INSANITY!!!

How incredibly silly and just plan mean-spirited. Way to go, cast member! Did you get her name? I hope she's on our cruise (just in case...)

Way to go for thinking on your feet and not letting dumb people ruin your vacay.

What a great idea to make a door sign!!! We've cruised twice with DCL and never saw one. I'm going to do try it in Nov. It'll help us find our room :Pinkbounc
The kids on our cruise switched the words around on the life preservers to weird phrases. DCL & parents really need to keep the teens from roaming the halls at night. They can be very loud. :sad2:

Yea...as a mom I'd be mortified too...but it was really sweet....the funny part is that we also had the room next door but no connecting door, so we were used to knocks on the door from grandma or grandpa...so I answered it from the bathroom w/a toothbrush hanging out of my mouth assuming they were telling me where they were headed for breakfast (thank goodness I was dressed!). Funny thing is that this family ended up being our shadow most of the cruise...also had grandparents w/them, were our lifestation mates, did same excursion, sat nearby at shows and then we ran into them in DISNEYLAND!

We had a goofy door sign on our cruise in July 2004...I thought it would be cute for the kids.....An easy way to find our room. Little did I know :confused3

DH went up to deck 9 to get a soda on the 1st day and couldn't remember the room number...He knew it was 6 something (thank God, he'd still be there searching the decks :rotfl2: ). He normally doesn't pay any attention to trip details and fun things, I can't believe he even knew the door sign was goofy (his favorite character) :cool1:

We had him back before the sail-away party :cheer2:

I can't wait to decorate our door! It is going to be jammed packed with pictures of us. Maybe that will prevent someone from stealing them!

I decorated our door, but we were on deck 1, so not too many folks had opportunity to see it. On the first day, I heard kids saying "how come they didn't do that to our door too?" They were thinking DCL did it, not us.
It helped us to a little extent, but we were only 4 doors from the forward elevator lobby, so we didn't have much opportunity to get lost.
