I would guess everyone on the boards already knows this, but just in case anyone is reading that needs this information. This morning as we were disembarking, one of the state room hosts down the hall was busy scrubbing down doors. The people had put up all sorts of colored paper with glue, tape, and what looked like Velcro. The door was covered with residue, and there were clear stains visible. They had two rooms and had done this on both doors. I would guess she was going to have to spend at least half an hour to 45 minutes on the busiest morning of the cruise, taking care of something that should never have occurred. So, if you were on the Oct 6 Dream cruise, and stayed on the sixth deck starboard aft, I certainly hope you left your state room host an extra tip and an excellent rating. I made Captain Henry aware on our way off the ship. His response, "magnets only!"

Ugh, That's horrible! Hope it doesn't happen too often to where they tell us we can't put anything on our door anymore.... :(

These are probably the kind of cruisers who don't believe in tipping. They obviously have no consideration for others.

Speaking of door decorations, is this just a Disney thing or do people on other cruise lines decorate the doors as well?

I have seen some, it's mostly if there's a special occasion like a birthday. Not nearly as much as happens on Disney.

Mostly Disney. If you see it on other ships, it's usually the purchased packages that include a magnet.

(I will say, my friend and I are doing Wonder Woman door magnets for our RCCL Greek Isles cruise because Greece. BUT we are at the very front end of a hallway so we shouldn't bother anyone with them.)

That is just complete disregard for others and property.

i forget. Are there notices in room or in the cruise documents that explain the rules for door decorating? Could they not hav known?

I remember seeing a door with red stains all over it from those gel clings. What a mess.

I don't know if it is in the booklet, but I'm pretty sure it's in the cruise contract you sign.

I don't know where it is, but I remember reading a DCL notice about a hefty fee for even minor damage to the stateroom door (such as even from Scotch tape).

On our Southern Caribbean cruise in April, there was a lady on embarkation day putting up her decorations with packing tape. I mean a ton of them too.
All I could think about was the poor Host/Hostess that would have to clean that mess at the end of the cruise.......

Not to mention the maintenance worker who would have to sand and repaint the door to repair the damage. Packing tape takes paint off like whoa.

I found this on DCL site. But I wish they would make it more prominent. Not sure how many people read the FAQ’s. And if they don’t frequent a site like this, they may miss it. Would love to see a notice in the actual stateroom. Such a shame to damage the doors and I really hope DCL does not prohibit all deco’s some day.

I do the door decorations for us and other family members...four doors for our June Alaska cruise with totem pole themes was a real project. It takes a lot of work to get enough magnets on some of my stuff, but I follow the rules. They are loads of fun (for me if no one else) to do and post. I even did a zip line between our son's two rooms. Here's hoping they don't forbid them.
There are pictures on the internet of other cruise line stateroom door decorated with generic cruising themes. With DCL, there is so much material (movies, characters, etc.) to draw on that you could decorate almost every stateroom door on all four ships and still have lots left over.

People like this might just ruin door decorating for the rest of us. :( We only use magnets, and I would hate for DCL to forbid those, too, just because certain people don't care what kind of damage they create.

We did nice magnet decor that we made for my parents' 50th celebration cruise on RCCL. We had 7 staterooms for our party - all on the same level but not all together, so we all left magnetic boards on the doors for messages!

On RCCL last year saw a few(some disney magents even), nowhere near as many as on Disney, and the ones I did see seemed to be Disney cruiser like us jist happening to be on an RCCL ship(which we also love)
