Don't you wonder why

YES!!! When I look at the calendar to post birthday greetings, there are LOTS of people who have never posted!

Why would anyone register then not post? It's more likely that most people that want to ask a question find out that they HAVE to register in order to post, so they ask their one or two (or more) questions, go on their vacation, and never return.

I hate when people get there spouse to sighn up, usually they post about 4 times then quit

Dunno. I have a bunch of people with cool names on my Buddy List and they aren't posting anything. ;)

I do, JTB. It's an interesting phenomenon. I don't know if they register and lurk and get scared away or what. Perhaps they are just very shy. Or on the trip planning boards they could be finding their answers without asking.

A very small percentage of DISers visit the Community Board, I think. I remember when I registered I stayed on the planning boards until I had all the answers I needed. That took about 3 weeks. I can remember I logged on and I had no questions to ask, I hadn't had my trip yet, so I sure didn't feel comfortable answering other questions but I was hooked on DIS. I didn't want to give it up. I found the community board then by scrolling through all of the different boards under the "just for fun" category. I never left the planning boards before that.

Great question, JTB. It is interesting to think of reasons why people register and never post.

Maybe they don't know where to post their questions or comments.

I'm serious because I just got back Saturday night and am not posting a trip report but can't gather my thoughts to post anything about the trip because I am not sure where to post.

We had a great time though with lots of Disney magic spread throughout the trip!

I mostly lurked for a long time after I registered. I had Q's about WDW Resorts, so I stayed on that board. Then I started branching out a bit. I only glanced at the CB a few times, and I was honestly kind of scared to post here. Everyone seemed to be friends, and I didn't know a soul. Finally, I just jumped in.
These boards can be kind of scary when you don't know anyone. Hopefully all the lurkers will come on down and get acquainted!! :D

We probably intimidate many newcomers with our overwhelmingly charming, witty, intelligent remarks.;) And there are some of us who aren't wearing pants.:earseek:

I used to think it odd that people didn't come by the CB. I think since I was first introduced to the board by a friend, who showed me the CB first, I always considered this the "main" board. Once I was on the Transportation Board trying to get some info for a friend who wanted to drive to WDW. There were a number of people that replied from my area. At that time some of us here on the CB were talking about having a meet. I invited the Houston people on the TB to come to it. You could practically see the tumbleweeds rolling across the screen and hear the crickets. No one replied about the meet and they all went back to talking about driving to WDW. After that I realized that many people are here for a variety of reasons. My biggest problem is getting people (like my friend who wanted the driving info) to register at all. I have a co-worker who is dying to take a Disney cruise and wants info, but I can't seem to get her on the DIS even though I have told her that there are experts who can tell her everything.

I think some people are intimidated because they don't know anyone. When you read these boards it seems as if everyone knows each other personally. Some people might feel like they are butting into someone elses conversation. The best thing for a lurker to do is just jump right in. I don't think anyone here bites, they just run around with no pants on.

JTB, you put people on your buddy list on the basis of their username?

I know I originally registered so I could ask questions. Mostly on the transportation board. But to register and NEVER post is odd. There would seem to be no reason for that.

After my trip was when I found the CB. And like others have said in thios thread, this board is intimidating. It seemed like everyone knew everyone else. I often wish there was a CB newbie thread on top to welcome them and tell them to jump on in!!

You could practically see the tumbleweeds rolling across the screen and hear the crickets.

Great line, Grog!! I have felt like that on THIS board at times. Still do once in a while!!:D :D

I'm one of the lurkers. I enjoy reading what other people are thinking. I feel like I'm eavesdropping on the conversations of others. I read the boards daily for the latest scoop, but I don't post often because I don't usually have anything witty, humorous, or necessary to say. Then when I do have something to say I find others have already expressed a similar idea. So (sniff) sadly I go back to lurking and enjoy my lunch break just reading other people's minds.

One question: Is it a requirement to enjoy the dis without your pants? I'm afraid that my coworkers would find this a little troublesome!!

This is ironic...

I registered my husband and for some reason he can't post. Anytime he tries he can't do it! GO figure!

I was a lurker also, but then I finally started posting and I cannot stop. I do agree with dandave though: the CB is very intimidating when you first start reading it. Everyone seems to know everyone else, and I feel like the new kid in school!

Tara [cute name, it's my DD's so please give it back LOL]

This is a pants optional board. When at home feel free to join the pantless brigade.

I'm sorry I can't give the name back, would love to but then people would have to use some sign for me and I'm sure it wouldn't be pleasant. Does your DD pronounce the name like the plantation or with a more "Tar" sound? I'm the stuck in the pavement kind.

I will remember the pants thing when I get home tonight!!

Now must return to the real world. ugh!! :(
