Im not much of a tv show type person. I may watch a few shows here or there but not many religiously and regularly. But a few weeks ago i started watching this show called deadwood on sky one and loved it. every week since i've made a point to free up time to sit down and watch it un-interupted....

and then right at the very end of last nights show(only 3 or 4 episodes into the series too!!!!) they KILL off the BEST character. Ultimatly killing off also the best relationships between him and 2 or 3 other characters which were developing really really well. and made me want to sit and watch this show....

on top of all that he died in a REALLY stupid way. the character killed off was wild bil hickock. he'd been portrayed so far as a hellishly fast gunslinger and had gunned down a few people who went after him. but this guy walks in behind him. says a few words. all the guys on his poker table recoil in shock. he doesnt even move!!!!!!! and then gets shot in the back. totally blooming stupid. only the week before a similar thing had happened and before the guy even got his gun out the holster hickock shot him dead.

Ugh makes me mad and cant help but think now that the series is going to go to pot. about the only thing that can save it is if the other good character(montana) goes back to his marshal days and goes vigilanty on this "lawless town".

ugh. ugh. stupid stupid HBO morons.

Anyway vent over. so dontcha just hate it when they do this? what tv shows have you watched where something like this happened and you just sat there in disgust?

Yes, they always kill off the best character or write them out. Bah!!!

Maybe we should consider a new career, in scriptwriting ;)

rofl ok lets write our own show and co-direct it. maybe based on the daram of message boards? /raises pinky to mouth

They are a pain in the bottom :(

I was watching The Lyon's Den and they only made one series and the end of that was a cliff hanger that I will never know what happened :(

and if they don't kill of the best character the powers-that-be axe the show mid-season!

My wife and I love Deadwood too. Just back from a short trip and ready to watch the video. Don't suppose there's much point watching it now.

Could someone add SPOILER, SPOILER, SPOILER to the thread title?

The whole thing is based on historical fact. It actually happened exactly that way. The scriptwriters had no choice!

James Butler Hickok was born in Troy Grove, Illinois, on May 27, 1837, and was shot dead in a saloon in Deadwood, Dakota Territory, on August 2, 1876. Famous for his lethal gun skills, as well as his professional gambling, he was a U.S. town marshal who unsuccessfully tried show business for a while after he got fired from his marshal job for shooting more than just bad guys.

hrmm i'd heard the whole show was based very loosely on history but they didnt plan to stick to it, instead using some severe artistic license.

so i guess they changed their mind. either way damn them!

**EDIT**

just read over that link you posted. they were pretty far off in the show IMO(definetly Not "exactly") and arent really sticking to history at all. they havent really brought up the whole calamity jane thing. hell till i read that it didnt even twig who that crazy lady who travels with him is.

not to mention the guy who shot him in the show didnt hide the gun under a coat, and wasnt the brother of someone who may or may not have been killed by hickok elsewhere. he was just some skew faced drunk hickok had beat at poker and insulted.

the guy the week before whom hickok had shot as he walked upto hickoks table was more of a representation of who killed hickok than the guy that killed him in the show. so they are obviously only very very loosly sticking to history so why bother to send him out so stupidly.
