It is golf team try out week. This will be DS15's first year to try out. He won't make varsity but is trying out to see if he makes JV or the practice squad. Based on his past scores he "should" make JV based on scores from the JV players last year but you never know who will show up for tryouts from year to year. They have 3 days of tryouts and take the best two scores. They had day 1 Monday, yesterday they had to cancel practice because of rain so today is day 2. Day 1 didn't go as well as he hoped but it sounded like everyone had a bad day so who knows.
Then, to top it off, DD15 also has "tryouts" this week. She is has already "made" the varsity squad-this will be her 3rd varsity season. The "mystery" will come with who will fill out the bottom 3 spots on the varsity (the top 3 players have all played varsity before). The next 3 SHOULD be 3 seniors that were on JV last year but a couple younger girls scored really well on Monday and the seniors did not. These 2 younger girls were playing better then the 3 now seniors did last year at the end of the year so it isn't surprising. One of DD's best friends on the team shot her best score ever on Monday so that is a good sign too.
The girls team has a VERY good chance of making the state tournament this year so it is even more exciting. They have a LOT of girls out (36 of them-6 kids play in each match) so the plans are to actually have 2 varsity squads and 2 JV squads (so 12 kids will play in varsity matches and 12 in JV matches). The second varsity squad will play in about 4 invitational tournaments, the top squad will be the "official" squad. I love golf. I just hate waiting to see how it all shakes out.
