It's been a week of water problems for me. A few nights ago we had torrential downpours from a thunderstorm. Water was leaking in to the first floor (it's a 3-story rowhouse) through an interior wall (the seam between two homes). I called the landlord right away to let them know about the leak and that it was because it was raining so hard and the water couldn't run off fast enough. It was dripping a little through the ceiling near the computer desk and I saw & felt water on the wall behind the desk. I hurriedly disconnected the computer to avoid shorting it out depending on how wet the wall became. No major damage to report and they were in the midst of scheduling a roofer to come out anyway.

That same night, around midnight, a second round of storms came through. I stepped in to the kitchen on my way to the bathroom and saw water on the floor by the cabinets. As I crossed the kitchen to get paper towel to wipe it up I saw even more water on the floor. To think I thought the first sign of water was odd. I opened the back door to see about 4 inches of rain laying on the walkway, below the step out the door. I guess the water was seeping through the foundation and on to the floor, because the water outside was not draining properly. I found myself cleaning the outside drain so the water could find it's way to the city's drainage system, in the dark with a flashlight and broken snow brush. I was fortunate that it had stopped raining when I discovered this problem. I waited until all the water drained before returning inside to bed.

Then yesterday, I had plans to finish the overhaul in my kitchen - cleaning that is. We had noticed some water on the basement floor but thought nothing of it. This problem actually presented itself a while ago, we just never realized how huge a problem it was. DH thought the dog had gone down there to leave his mark, but I suggested that maybe water was getting in around the edge of the sink and leaking from underneath it. One of us had to go up and turn the water on and see if by chance it was the drain or the counter that had the leak. DH turned the water on and the leak became apparent. There is a spot near a fitting that has rusted through. DH poked his thumb through completely it was so soft. So now we have to call the landlord again for a water problem. The poor guy, when it rains it pours (no pun intended ;)), but then what would you expect from a house that is probably a century old? For two days now I have not been able to use the kitchen sink, what a pain the the rear that is. DH has forgotten already - TWICE  - and had to go to the basement for a cleanup because there is now a long hole in the pipe from his thumb. Thank goodness it is a straight section of pipe that is exposed and not hidden behind a wall. It should be an easy repair. It's no fun washing dishes in a dishpan (which I do anyway) in the bathtub or rinsing dirty dishes in the bathroom sink. Oy Vay!

Toppers - today the toilet overflowed giving me more water to clean up. I'm so glad we won't be home tomorrow. :teeth:

I really thought this was about the dessert from Beaches and Cream. Bummer! It's always about dessert. Have one, you'll feel much much better. :p

send your hubby in first when you get back tomorrow!!:boat:
