Don't Put Your Hand on Mickey's Hat-A Family Vacation--NEW TRIP REPORT 5/24/14

I just saw you posted an update. I just was speed reading it. Lunch yum - but I have more comments except we are going to watch a movie now so I shall return. I really like R&C. Good pick.

Once again - you guys looks so happy to be there.

Sounds fun so far! I'm subbing!! :thumbsup2

pixiedust: Welcome! So glad you decided to join us. It was a really fun trip. I will share a little secret. We may look like adults and behave like adults at work, but anywhere else, we are complete children. There will be antics galore, trust me!

I will welcome your comments! That is part of why I love the DIS! You can share your advice or experiences and share a laugh. I hope you enjoyed your movie! We had a great time there. We went there later in the week with my Dad and Jackie!

Great time in Epcot! Rose and crown looks yummy.

It was excellent! The atmosphere is great, we had a really good time. And even though it can be loud in there and there were several families, it was still fairly romantic.

I'm in

Love the night time photo

Welcome! pixiedust: So happy you joined us. I love that pic too! If we are in Disney by ourselves, we always spend our last day at Magic Kingdom then head over to Epcot in the afternoon and stay until night. Since we were meeting with my Dad and Jackie and had a dinner ADR for our last night some where else, we thought we would get our night time pic the first night!

You didn't think we could pass that up, did you? :)

Of course you couldn't pass that up! :rotfl:

When I was at F&G two years ago the dancers were EVERYWHERE and what I remember most is they all had a ton of eye makeup on. Crazy.

How cool that you guys got married at the Boardwalk. That must bring back great memories.

OMG - bummer on the rash. That happened to my nephew when I took him several years ago. Two benadryl - I bet you were out cold. I would be.:rotfl: I hope the rash is gone in the morning.

I'm in! The Rose and Crown looks wonderful. Jaffa Cakes were one of my favorite treats when I was in England. Looking forward to the rest of your report!

We love that picture on the way out. Even though you are dragging yourself to the bus stop and are completely worn out, one more photo sounds like an awesome idea.

You are right about the eye makeup. Bright colors and FULL of glitter. The sun glinting off of it was really odd.

It was great to get married there. Some of our wedding picks have the Boardwalk and the Swan and Dolphin in them. Very pretty!

I slept ok. It was better the next morning but still very red and inflamed. Darn English/Irish/Swedish heritage. Pasty, sensitive skin, that is me! :rotfl:

Welcome! pixiedust: So glad you are joining us on this grand adventure. I had a bite and they were pretty tasty!

Hey all! It is Friday, which means I have time for an update!!!!!!

When I left off we were just ending our first night. I was pretty tired after the Benadryl (imagine that!) and slept pretty well. I did have to get up once during the night because I was having HORRIBLE leg cramps. I put some icy hot on them and curled back up and went to sleep. When we got up, I checked out my rash. It was better, not as inflamed, but still red and itchy. So I took some more Benadryl, put some more icy hot on my calves, and put some Goldbond on my rash. I am pretty sure that I had aged by 4 decades at least. Seriously, that was a hot mess to put on and take just to start my day. But hey, if it kept me going, I was all for it! We ate breakfast quickly in the room and headed to the bus stop at 7:30 am. Where were we going?

Hollywood Studios!!! Again, you say? Why yes, again. We had laid out our week and reservations and had always planned to go to the Studios on Saturday and have lunch. It just so happens it was a repeat of the day before. But we were happy to go back and do some things we did not get to do the day before. So the bus doesn't show up until 7:50 and there are SEVERAL people going to the Studios. A second bus showed up quickly so we were able to get a seat without a problem. We arrived at the Studios at 8:05. Again, there were large groups of dancers or cheerleaders all dressed up. That was fine, they were all just REALLY shiny. We are talking miles of sequins and pounds of glitter. Good thing I had shades to wear. :cool1:

We did our typical plan for getting to the Studios at opening. We get through the gate, hand Jeremy my ticket, he takes off towards TSM and I leisurely wander back to meet him. I just walk slowly (off to the side, of course) and look, listen, feel, and smell. I love opening a Disney park. It is so joyful! I wandered back to TSM. Our return time was 9:45, so we had some time to do other things. Since Jeremy loves ToT, We decided to go over there so he could ride it before it got too busy. While he was riding, I wandered through the shops and sat in the sunshine. Here are some pics Jeremy took.

He enjoyed his ride and we met back up in the shops. We took a few pics there too:

Jeremy thought I needed this. It doesn't look half bad. Now only if they had a Dr. Facilier one! We were now headed to do something we had never done...

We went to see the first show of the day at 9:15. So what did we think? It was really good. I enjoyed all of the special effects and the music. I also liked seeing a show with actual seats and not bleachers. I would go back and watch it again. We had a few more minutes until our fast pass, so we headed to the Great Movie Ride and we actually got the Cowboy scene!!! We always get the gangster. I was excited. It is now time to head to TSM. We walked over there and kept walking all the way to where the stand by line and fast pass line merge. We went through and right as we got to the first step, a cast member came out and called for a party of 2. Here we are!!!!!! So up and then down the far side of the stairs and we were quickly put in a loading area. We had a great time and I won!!!!!!! I didn't take a pick, but our scores were as follows: Ashley 148,200 and Jeremy 146,300. It wasn't by much, but it was a win! We decided to start heading towards Star Tours and stopped to get a picture with McQueen:

We apparently did not pay attention when getting dressed since we both wore purple and we are NOT one of those matchy matchy couples. Anyway, we also stopped for this one:

There was a pretty long wait for Star Tours and I didn't really want to ride it. The last time I rode it, I was kind of queasy afterwards and we had an ADR coming up. Jeremy went into the shop and made a couple of droids while I sat at a table and watched the Jedi Experience. It was pretty darn cute. While sitting there, I also wrote in my journal. Jeremy came out about 45 minutes later. We looked in several shops for a while and made a list of things we wanted to purchase or might want to purchase if we couldn't find anything else we liked better.

Now came a conundrum. Our ADR wasn't until 12:25. It was 11:10. We have now done everything we wanted to do here today and were ready to rest. I suggested we head to the ADR and see about checking in early. We headed to our lunch spot, 50's Prime Time, and went to the desk. The lady at the desk said we could check in, but that we might have to wait until our ADR time. There was a comfy looking loveseat open so we said no problem and went and took a seat. 5 minutes later, they were calling our names! This is the beauty of being a party of two. :woohoo:

We had a very friendly waiter who called us cousins, but that was about it. We didn't mind as we could go either way about the schtick here. There was a nice family from the UK next to us that we chatted with on and off. There was also a VERY large group of parents from the dance competition (about 25)who were being VERY loud. When I am sitting less than 5 feet from my husband and I have to lean across the table to hear him, that is pretty loud. They weren't being nasty or anything, just a little obnoxious. Apparently a family in another room complained as the manager came in and told them they had to quiet down.

Soon lunch was arriving. We both ordered the chicken Caesar Salad. It was very good and definitely large enough to be a meal. We were hungry and ate before we took a picture. For dessert, I got the seasonal cobbler. I really enjoy the cobbler here. It is a little different, but good. It was apple and served warm and the cobbler topping was made of toasted oats and cinnamon and sugar. Very tasty! Again, no picture. But I did take a picture of Jeremy's dessert:

That is a HOT MESS! It had a brownie, ice cream, whip cream, hot fudge, M&M's, Mickey sprinkles, and caramel corn. We were now completely stuffed. Jeremy and I sat there and decided what to do. I asked Jeremy of we could go back to the hotel for a few because my legs were itching and I wanted to put some more powder on my legs. He agreed and said he would take some pics while I doctored my rash. On the way out to the bus stop, we took this pic:

We headed to the bus stop and waited for a bit. We rode back to POFQ. I headed to the room and Jeremy headed to take pictures. I will share those in the next update!

Two updates in one night?!?!?! This one will be almost completely pictures of our hotel with very little dialogue. Please sit back and enjoy!

So how did I like this resort? I loved it! It was small, quiet, and reminded me of my hometown. Granted, this is the NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) that doesn't really exist. It is the utopian version of the Vieux Carre (French Quarter). All the beautiful architecture and character without the smells and trash that can accumulate. Plus no drunk tourists stumbling all over the place. Believe me, I love the real French Quarter with a passion (even the smell of garbage). It has a great vibe. But this is a good approximation and very family friendly setting. What I really loved were all the details that Disney paid attention too. Jackson Square gift shop, there is a real Jackson Square in the French Quarter right in front of St. Louis Cathedral. Mardi Gras float items, that is what they look like AND they have referred to real parades. Orpheus is on the North Shore! The horse tie ups, those REALLY exist in the Quarter. This resort is small, yet spacious enough that you are not on top of everyone. The resort was at capacity a few days while we were there, and you couldn't tell! I would not have known if a cast member had not told me.

After 20 minutes, Jeremy came back to the room and I felt better and the powder was working. We headed to the bus stop to catch a bus. Where too this time? Come back and see me to find out!!!!!!

"Plus no drunk tourists stumbling all over the place."

Where's the fun in that? Besides, your father wasn't there yet.

Nah, you can handle your drink! You live in the home of the go cup AND we are Irish. We have this covered. ;)

I will try to do another update during the week. Please keep checking back!

Hey y'all! It is a Monday and I am writing an update. Don't faint now! I am writing an update and watching Disney Parks shows on Destination America Channel. It is Disney Week this week!!!!! I know what I am watching all week :)

So when I last left off, we had run back to the hotel for a bit. It was now time to head to a park. We went to the bus stop, hopped on a bus that was basically empty, and headed here:

Hello Magic Kingdom!!!!!!!!!

We went through security, got our picture, headed under the train station, walked out onto Main Street, got a little teary eyed looking at the Castle, and listened to the wonderful music. We then took a minute to look around and pulled up short. Why is there this many people here? We decided to head to Tomorrowland and hit those attractions first and work our way around. First stop was to get fast passes for Buzz. We then walked over to the People Mover, my favorite ride, and it was down? What?!?!?! Don't they understand this is my favorite ride and it is my first time in the Magic Kingdom this trip? While we are on the subject, can I just say that I am so glad they have renamed this ride to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover. I have always called it the People Mover and have received odd looks. What can I say, I am old school. I have to give credit to my dad though as he is so old school, he calls it the WEDway People Mover. Represent :) That is how we roll.

So what to do now that we have to wait? Let's go to the Carousel of Progress! I am a complete corndog as I love this show. I will sing the song at random, whenever, wherever I am. My father and I will sing it on the phone to each other. 2 points to anyone who can finish the rest of this line from the original song: "This is the time..."

Anyway, we enter the theater, watch the intro, and move to our first family. Everything is going great, the song starts to play, I start to sing, and....... nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Why aren't we moving? Everyone is looking around trying to figure out what is going on. The scene starts to play again. At this time, an announcer comes on over the PA and says "Attention in the theater. The theater will start to move in 2 minutes." Thirty seconds later, the announcement came on again, just now it was a minute and a half. And so on until we moved. Everyone cheered and we got settled into the next scene. The music comes on, I sing, no movement. Seriously? We go through the same countdown. The rest of the show thankfully went without a hitch. We found out later during the week what happened. I will share at that time since there is a funny story with it.

We come out of CoP, and the People Mover is running. Oh yeah! We went and got on the ride that says to me "I am at Disney." I just love the vantage point, the breeze, the soundtrack, the people watching. All of it. It my opinion, this is a perfect ride. As you can see, I am in my happy place:

We headed over to Buzz and had a great ride. Jeremy won! We decided we needed a snack, so we headed to the Lunching Pad and got a pretzel. But not just any pretzel...

We headed over to Storybook Circus. What a great job Disney did! I love the gift shop here. It is well themed and also has some really interesting things in it. We spent about twenty minutes wandering in this gift shop. We decided to head over to New Fantasyland and walk around. Oh. My. God. This is breathtaking. If my husband wasn't a park commando, I could spend hours here just being. I swear I was transported into the films. It just lifted my spirit.

After a while, we went to Old Fantasyland to head to Liberty Square. Right about Peter Pan, we hit a sea of humanity. I mean it was a total wall. There was no trying to choose where you went. You just got in the crowd, went with the flow, and broke off as close as you could to where you were going, and work your way back. We wanted to ride the Haunted Mansion. Wait time was listed as 45 minutes and the line was getting close to the Liberty Belle. Nope, we kept walking. We headed towards Pirates. Sign said 55 minutes. Nope, not happening. It was obviously very crowded, so Jeremy and stepped to the side and decided what to do. My legs were itching some and I was ready to go back to the hotel so we could rest and start out fresh again tomorrow. Jeremy agreed and shortly we were on a bus back to the hotel. We got back to the resort about 4:45. I asked Jeremy if he wanted to go ahead and eat dinner. He said sure, then we can go to the room and just hang out for the rest of the night and rest.

We got to the food court right before it changed to the dinner menu so I was able to try the one item I really wanted to try, the shrimp po boy. Being from New Orleans, I love po boys and I love seafood. The shrimp po boy is actually my favorite type of po boy followed closely by the roast beef po boy dripping with gravy... I will stop drooling now. I got the sandwich with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayo. For those of you not from New Orleans, this is what we called dressed. If you ever go to NOLA and they ask you if you want your sandwich dressed, this is what they are talking about. Culture lesson over. :) I got the homemade chips as a side. Jeremy got the shrimp basket with fries. We both got apple slices for dessert to eat tomorrow. And now the pictures:

Biggest. Sandwich. EVER.

I only ate about half of it, but it was soooooo good. Soon we were heading to the room to chill for the rest of the night. Here is where I should put we went to bed early and check back to see where we are going tomorrow. But here is what actually happened. We went back to the room, we watched some TV and used the laptop. At about 7, I looked at Jeremy and asked if wanted to go to the lounge and get a drink. He said sure so I got up, took a quick shower, and we were heading to the lounge at 7:30. We had a great bartender who made some great drinks. Jeremy had a VERY stout Hurricane and I had a very stout and spicy Bloody Mary. I LOVE Bloody Marys, and this one was awesome. We sat at a little table and watched TV, wrote in our journals, and listened to the music. I finally made myself get up and head back to the room. We were planning on an early start and would need to get to bed soon. We walked the short walk back to our room and were soon in the bed. So where were we going? Check back to see which park we headed to next. Here is a hint: it's natazu!

Bummer that you had to deal with an annoying rash. I know Benadryl puts me right to sleep so I'm sure you were probably feeling the same way from time to time.

That's great that your PTC ADR was able to be adjusted.

POFQ is such a pretty resort and your pictures captured that so well.

I have to admit I am a sucker for CoP and the PeopleMover.

That shrimp po boy looks really good.

Oh no! This is as far as it goes! I was getting all into this trip report.

I hope I don't have to wait until Friday for the next installment. ;)

So, are you trying anything besides power on your legs? Sounds like some hydro-cortisone cream may have been in order. I hope to read the problem resolves soon.

BTW, you look just like your dad!

I am totally in love with the People Mover! Glad you got to ride it on the second try!
How strange about COP, can't wait to hear that story!
Too bad about MK being so crowded. Good idea to head back for a bite to eat.
Thanks for the culture lesson! I had absolutely no idea what a po boy was. I've read the name a thousand times but never really knew what it was (besides food! haha)

What do you mean it's called anything other than the WEDway People Mover? Either your an old fogey or you're not. I also rode the one they installed at Houston's airport back in the day, by cracky. And speaking from my fogeydom, I believe the line is "Now is the time," not "This is the time".:rolleyes1

I was fine as long as I was up and walking. Put me on the bus, and it was a toss up if I would be fine or nodding off. I was so excited they were able to get us in early. We just loved staying there. It is so restful. Those are two of my favorite attractions in the Magic Kingdom. That sandwich was amazing. I swear there was at least 25 good sized shrimp on there. The bread was good French bread too. Nice and chewy. It is definitely enough to feed two people.

I hope to put a small update tonight (mostly pictures) and a new, longer update tomorrow.

The rash thankfully was better by the next day. I kept putting powder on to keep it dry and that really seemed to help.

I know, right! We cannot deny each other at all. He also looked just like his father. Apparently, that side of the family has strong genes :lmao:

That ride is truly the ride that finally says I am on vacation. I miss the old soundtrack though!

The story is pretty good as it involves a cast member being pretty funny.

I was a little sad that we were cutting our time there so short, but we had plenty of time left plus I just didn't feel like fighting people to get around.

You are welcome! I love them. Glad I could help you out with the pics!

Well hello there doppelganger :) You win, but I am still a whippersnapper, so I have time to learn :)

Joining in too!

Welcome! pixiedust: I hope you are enjoying it so far!

We stayed at POFQ earlier this year and loved it, I really think it is the perfect resort :goodvibes

I am pretty sure this will now be "our" resort. At least until we join the DVC ;) I just really loved it here. It was so beautiful and peaceful and all of our cast member interactions were just great.
