Have just discovered that my passport expired on 12 August. Looks like I've got a busy couple of days ahead! Still, better now than at the airport!

Oh blimey! Still, like you say...much better than at the airport....could you just imagine :o

Deb - I used to have recurring nightmares of turning up at an airport with an expired passport:rolleyes:

DD's on a 5 year child's one which was due to expire next February and, knowing how strict US immigration is, thought I'd best renew it as they want a min of 6 months validity. She's happy with her new one cos she looks more "growed up";)

Are you taking a risk with the post for the the passport to be renewed yourself - must admit they turned Katie's around in less than a week and it said n their website a max of 14 days, so you should be ok:D

Lucky you noticed Deb, a few years ago we got turned away at the airport because of a problem with DH's passport - it was a total nightmare. Although the passport hadn't expired, the last page had been ripped out somehow and the airline wouldn't let him travel.

A trip to Liverpool and four anxious hours later we had a new passport and arrived in Orlando 24 hours late to meet the friends we were staying with who had no idea what had happened to us!!

Not an experience I would like to repeat.:(

Hopefully you will get your new passport through in plenty of time.

:earseek:

do you have a passport office local to you then deb?

i had to renew my passport last year and i paid an extra £4 at the post office for them to check all the details and send it off and it was only gone a week

Oh Deb what are you like:rolleyes:  Thank god you noticed before it was too late, then there would have been tears :( you travel on the same day as me and from Gatwick if I remember rightly so I will keep my fingers and anything else I can crossed for you, I'm sure you will get it back in time, as the passport office is over their "busy time" by the end of August.;)

Keep us informed anyway Deb:)

ttfn:wave:

:earseek:

Good job you checked....... off to take a look at ours (just to be on the safe side!

Matt actually spotted it. Although I'm usually really organised (making a list, checking it twice, etc), I would never have checked it as I know it's not 10 years old. When he told me, I didn't believe him at first, but it turns out it's a replacement of one issued in 1992.

We've been through the whole 'OMG - imagine if we'd found out at check-in' scenario about a thousand times and we've told our friends to check theirs too.

I'm not overly worried about getting a new one through in time (The Passport Agency's website indicates 2 weeks at the moment), although I will pay the £4 to have it checked in the circumstances - not something I'd normally bother with.

Gosh Deb - lucky Matt spotted it, I think it must be every traveller's nightmare to get to the airport and have an invalid passport as we've seen it so many times on TV haven't we?

Hilary - LOL!!! I know what you mean, I know ours are OK but still had to go and have one more look at them after reading this! I do know that the children's passports expire November 2003 (can't believe it's already 4 years since we got them!) so I'll have to remember that the US requires 6 months extra on them!

When you pay the Post Office £4 to check your passport they give you a lpiece of paper that says they are not responsible if your passport is not filled in correctly. So to me it is no different getting your partner to check through the form for you. As there is no gaurantee from them that is is correct.
