Don't like waitlist autobooking/autocancelling

Checked my DVC account online this morning to see if my VWL 1 night waitlist had come through. My point value seemed strange, and when I clicked into my vacations I saw my waitlist had come through :cheer2: , but that my SSR reservation for that night and 2 nights prior had been completely cancelled (I had added the 3rd night to my existing SSR ressie as a backup).
When I waitlisted, I specifically told the MS rep that I only wanted the last (overlapping) night of my SSR reservation cancelled if my waitlist came through (I actually didn't think they'd automatically do that, thought I was going to have to call back to cancel).

The rep I spoke with this morning confirmed this was clearly noted in the instructions in their system, but also confirmed that, by mistake, the entire 3 nights were cancelled. Luckily it was at SSR and he was able to rebook the original 2 nights.

Auto booking is one thing, but auto cancelling is too risky...
I guess the lesson I learned is that if I waitlist again, I'll tell them I don't want the duplicate reservation cancelled. Once I can confirm my waitlist has come through, I'll call again to have them cancel while I can participate on the phone.

If you don't mind me asking when were you placed on the wait list?

This is my first time being on a waitlist and I'm very nervous :scared: . We already booked our flight for 10/9 though 10/13. I called on Thursday and was only able to get 2 (10t & 11th ) of the 4 nights at OKW. So they placed me on a waitlist for OKW for the other 2 nights and the entire 4 night waitlist for all the other DVC resorts. I only have a month to remain on the waitlist and I'm wondering what my chances are. :scared1: :scared1:

I was lucky, I was on the waitlist for under 5 days (added on 8/6 and it came through when I checked on 8/11). My trip is in Jan 09 which seems to still have quite a bit of availability. My original booking at 11mo was SSR for 8 nights. On 8/6 I tried to change 6 of the nights to VWL and I got all except 1 night (the above waitlist night)

I think your chances varies by Month and resort...

Thank goodness they were able to reinstate your 2 nights at SSR! In a perfect world that would be a good idea to hang onto the backup ressie until the waitlist is confirmed, but in my case, I do not have anymore current UY points left. ( I have preferred view BW and want BW view instead) So then what would they do...borrow from next UY and then when I cancel current ressie I would be stuck with current year points that I couldn't bank. I may not be thinking of this correctly, but I thought they automatically swapped the ressies.

I'm not sure that they will give you the option not to have the original reservation cancelled. They used to but I think it was changed when they went from phone call confirmation to auto confirmation. Certainly, in this instance it made no sense to cancell the nights that weren't even waitlisted! I make it a habit to check the website regularly, but that really shouldn't be necessary.

I'm glad that your situation worked out !
