Myself and 2 other college age kids are heading over to Epcot for the day in a few weeks. I've gone before with my family, but deciding where to eat when my parents aren't paying is a different story. So, basically we want somewhere to eat, preferably at one of the countries, that isn't going to cost as much as our tickets into the park. I was thinking maybe a late lunch around 2, and then either the Norwegian or French bakeries later on? What do y'all think?

Keep in mind Disney "cheap" isn't McDonalds "cheap". You can eat a decent meal at the counter service restaurants in Epcot. There are some great choices in the different countries and they aren't all that expensive. I personally love the Japanese counter service and the fish and chips at the England counter service. You can find the menus here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningmain.cfm

My opinion go ck out all ears & the prices of the food. If I were you I give up something else and save that so you can enjoy your meal at epcot. I say $40 pp I do over estimate but I rather have $ left over than be short.
Have a nice trip :thumbsup2

I agree with the Fish & Chips in England. We also like the food at the American Adventure. You can get a double cheeseburger, buy an extra bun and split it into two meals. If you're not big eaters this is a great way to save on one meal.

another option is seasons food court in the land, lots of variety and fairly reasonable.

take a look at the menus linked above and you can see the prices for all the diff places. Biergarten may be a good TS option for you. It is a buffet so you can get filled :) and could be a fun place for your group

let us know what you decide and how it was when you get back:thumbsup2

Well welcome to our world buckaroos! :rotfl:

You can do cheap as in cost or cheap as in a lot of food for the money.

Buffets could be cheap with a lot of food: read gorging, not usually an issue for college kids
Biergerten doesn't appeal to me, but it is all you can eat for $20
Garden Grill is $21 with a more limited, familiar menu and it includes characters. They bring the food to you, but as much as you want.
You should make reservations for either of these if that is your choice. Garden Grill will cease Lunch on Oct 6th, but sounds like it would still be an option for your trip.

Lots of people say the platters in Morrocco are large enough to share so that would be $12 plus drinks for two people.
Take a look at Sunshine Seasons, lots of variety and lower prices, its a food court so there is probably something there to suit every taste.

You can easily have a full meal in any of the counter service restaurants in Epcot for $10-$12. But if you want a table service meal, I think you are looking at $25 per person, and that's if you limit yourself to an entree, soft drink, tax and tip. Depending on your choices, you might be able to do entree plus dessert, but without soft drink, also for about $25.

I was just at Epcot last week and ws in the same boat as you. No parents paying for food! I went by the French bakery and got a hot ham and cheese croissant. I think it came to around $3.40. I was able to get that and a side item from another country for around $5. I've also found that if you buy the bottle of soda from one of the carts outside it is $2, compared to if you get a fountain drink from a restaurant which is $2.30 and up. And they are also to close up if you go on a ride. Just a thought!

The counter service in China is quick, good and inexpensive. The food court in The Land is unbeatable in selection, quality and price together! Also, you could try the counter service in Mexico.
OH YEAH.....I almost forgot, for a quick drink, go to the COOL STATION. The coke samples from around the world are free! Just remember, not all sodas are created equal!!!

At Disney counter service, a good guesstimate is to figure on spending at least double what a MickeyD's meal would cost you. For about $14 per person, if you're looking for interesting & a large quantity of food, try the shawarma chicken & lamb combo platter at Tangierien Cafe, Morocco/epcot in Epcot. It's a huge platter of food with about 1/2 lb. of meat, several Mediterranean side dishes including a small lettuce-type salad, a beverage & a small piece of baklava for dessert.

If you're legal & looking for a fun adult beverage, the Sultan's Colada is a great version of a pina colada you can get in Morocco!

Sunshine Seasons is also a good option, since you can pick & choose entrees, sides, etc. so can pretty much spend as much as you can afford!

I'd go with Fish and Chips in the UK or something in Cantina de San Angel (Mexico)

Will you be there during the Food and Wine Fest? If so, then you can get some serving size mini-plates for about $3-$4 each!

James' Top-7 Best Relatively Inexpensive WDW Restaurants Around Epcot:
7. Cantina de San Angel (counter svs)
6. Tangierine Cafe (counter svs)
5. Biergarten
4. Rose & Crown
3. Beaches & Cream
2. San Angel Inn
1. Garden Grill

Another vote for the China counter service. Just to let you know I got the kids meal there and it was plenty of food....one eggroll, rice and entree plus a YUMMY almond cookie and drink and was cheap but again good!

Another suggestion that you can exit out the International Gateway and go to Beaches and Cream or ESPN Club.

As far as value, I like Morocco or Maxico (the sampler). I think these are some of the biggest meals from a CS and are under $10. The food in Morocco is especially good.

I wouldn't bother with TS unless someone is REALLY insistant - you can get good CS food at Epcot, and a meal will probably run approx. $10. Most countries also have beer and/or wine for about $5 - 7. The only CS I avoid in Epcot is the American pavilion, just b/c I can get that slop anywhere.

As far as the goodies, I vote you go to France b/c they have a much bigger selection of treats than Norway (and I found Norway's baked goods to be too bland and overly sugary).

Our family likes to Dine around the world. We share an entree then move on to the next country and try something there. That way we get to eat some of everything, take a break, do some shopping, and have a great day. One day we might have the nachos in Mexico, an eggroll in China, A swarma sandwich and Baklava in Morocco. Another day we might have the combo plate at Yakatori house in Japan, Fish and chips in the UK and then go back to the pastry shoppe in France. There is less waste for us and we get to have a little of many of different things.:)

If you are not going during food and wine, share a Schwarma platter (its huge!) and then share some fish and chips in england later. Or, Biergarten as someone said - only 20, all you can eat.

If you are going during food and wine - snack around the world. Each of you get 3-4 things each and share. You'll get to sample a lot for about 12 per person.

Another money saver is to bring your own soft drinks/ water into the park. Disney doesn't have a problem with this. And - it saves $ for adult beverages (if you are legal). :thumbsup2

This is exactly what I was thinking!! Talk about cheap!!! Tasty, share, big variety!! Sounds perfecr, IF you are going during Food & Wine festival!!!
