Don't know if this has been posted about GF DVC

Got papers to do an add-on at BLT (yay!) and found a paragraph in the contract that I found interesting. Thought I would share:

"The villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is only a possible component site which may never be added to the Disney Vacation Club Multi-Site timeshare plan. Do not purchase an interest in a Disney Vacation Club Resort in reliance upon the additional of this component site or the addition of any new resorts".

I have not seen this clause before. It raised the possibility for me of a GF exclusive plan!

Thought of other members!

Thanks for posting, I did an add-on but did not see that in the contract. However, in talking to my guide I brought up GF. It was mentioned that plans were to be exclusive but did not go into details.

Well, isn't that special. So much for being in a "club".

I have always considered the GF exclusive simply because we would never have the kind of money it takes to stay there. Not when we were staying a POP. Back then that never bothered me. Now I own 310 BLT points bought direct and I still won't be able to stay there.

If this is, indeed the case I hope they at least differentiate between the real, existing DVC and the new exclusive chapter. Like DVElite or DVC Plus.

This will not be a popular decision.

If it is exclusive, I won't have a problem with that as long as they aren't allowed to book at other DVC resorts on GFV points at 7 months or less.

Possibly it has to do with a resale points exclusion??? Hope it's only that and nothing else.

I wouldn't get too excited about all this. After all nothing has been officially announced and rumors can and will be rumors. The Top of the World Lounge was supposed to be exclusive to DVC BLT guests. Same clause written in contracts. Now it is open to any DVC member staying on cash or points for a period of time, so we can all enjoy it.

Sounds to me just like legalese they would add to cover their butts while a new resort is under construction but not declared/available for purchase yet. I wouldn't read very much into it unless someone knows something otherwise.

That clause for a resort that has been announced but not yet open has been in the contracts or disclosure documents going back forever before an announced resort has opened for sales. It thus is not anything new and represents a legal possibility that always exists before a resort goes on sale, in that Disney can change its mind until then.

Similar language has always been, but it has not, to my knowledge, been quite so resort specific. I know when I purchased in 1992 that Vero was under construction, and additional DVC were rumored. We had to sign something that said that there is a chance that there would be no other DVC resort (other than OKW), and that new construction may or may not be added to the club.

Basically, the above statement is saying not to puchase with the assumption that you can use your points at GFV, as legally they can not sell you based upon that possibility until some GFV units are actually legally declared into DVC inventory and sales begin.

Basically it is like telling you not to purchase based upon the announced Eagle Pines resort, as things could change (and did) with Eagle Pines. Eagle Pines was never built.

It certainly does NOT indicate any sort of points being exclusive to GFV.

::yes:: Yep - the name just changes depending on what resort is in the planning/building stage.

I am with you. If they deny us the ability to reserve at GFV than the reverse should be true.

Regardless of what our contracts say, the DVC sales people really push the fact that you can go to the other DVC properties (and other places). If DVC starts a tiered program, I highly doubt I will tie up more of my money with purchasing more points regardless of whether they are direct or indirect.

If GFV is just an oddity, I can live with that but if DVC is fundamentally changing how the whole system works, what a HUGE disappointment.

When we bought BLT the same clause was in there about Hawaii, it was resort specific.

Geographically, it strikes me as odd that they would even think about making the GF an exclusive resort. Aulani, VGC, and to a lesser extent HH and VB make sense, because people who bought there largely to use their points in those locales ... I wouldn't mind being shut out of WDW with my VGC points. But VGF as a stand alone?

Although the possibility of a "super-deluxe" style DVC with VGF as the flagship might make sense, if they hadn't already not done this with BLT. Perhaps a separate DVC+ for the monorail resorts? Eg VGF/BLT/VPoly?

It sounds like drusba and Chuck are right and this is just standard legalese, but still an interesting thought experiment.

This is legalese and has been there with all new resorts that I recall. I doubt they'd make GF exclusive but if they did, it would be to start a new DVC likely because of changes they'd like to make related to resale. They could do the same with the portions they own for all resorts if they chose to. It sounds to be like the sales staff are trying to create a buzz to generate more early sales. Maybe they're referring to the charter benefit that have been in place at some of the locations like you're name on a tapestry.

My BWV contract in 1999 had the same language about Villas at Wilderness Lodge. They put it in everytime there is a resort announced under contruction. Eagle Pines was announced but never opened, so there's a case where the clause could come into play.

So was Newport Coast CA.
