My sister and I were just talking about his, but I only knew about the blackbirds in Arkansas and some of the fish. I didn't hear about millions of fish around the world or the crabs in the UK. Last I heard they said the fish weren't related to the birds, but this was early on. I agree it is scary.

The fish are only related to the birds by marriage.

I actually just read about this at National Geographic and it's all just media hype; I think there is nothing else to report on since new years is over. ;) This story states that mass deaths of animals actually happen all the time:

Google led me to the same article. Makes sense...IF they aren't just trying to lull us into a false sense of security. You just never know with those National Geographic nerds. ;)

My problem is this line in the paper today. 'The mystery of the deaths of thousands of blackbirds in Arkansas this month has been solved, they died of blunt force trauma'

That doesn't sound like a 'solved' mystery to me....what kind of blunt force trauma kills thousands of blackbirds????!!!

Sounds like the beginning of a mystery.

Maybe they hit a UFO. That would also explain Michael Bolton.

Apparently, whatever spooked the birds to begin with caused them to run into each other, breaking wings, smacking heads and then the big "blunt force" hitting the ground. I just liken it to those panic stampedes that happen at some international soccer games.

SWINE FLU!!!!!!!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

Its normal you hear about it all the time it just doesn't make it to the top of the news.

We had a lot of dead sparrows a few years ago and it was an outbreak of salmonella (not sure if I spelled that right) - it only seemed to affect the sparrows.

It could easily be something similar and with birds flocking and fish schooling they would be much more likely to die at a similar time if disease swept through their area.

I thought for sure the birds were all going to be wearing the same Nikes and would have purple gatorade on their beaks.
