Just thought I would share this. We have them and have had nothing but trouble. Just last night we had NO PHONE service from 6pm until after 11pm (we went to sleep after that and it was working in the morning). Strictly a Rogers Home Phone thing - Bell service was working fine, I had cable and internet no problem (both with Rogers). I have had dropped calls and a lot of fuzzy calls. I am on my last leg with them!!

Some person with a Rogers phone line got their phone and my brothers (bell) crossed over somehow last week - you would call my brother's number and get some stranger answering and if people called her number you got my brothers - took them almost 4 days to get it fixed! No idea whose 'fault' it was though but sure was weird!!

Hmmm, that's weird, and Rogers customer service is " oh so wonderful" We have Cogeco digital phone pkg. Its good, only lost service once when the cable was out, had no internet either. I would be asking to speak to supervisors or higher to get it fixed.

I've got the Primus VOIP and I love it. They had a little issue last week when they did an upgrade on their end and if affected people with a certain type of router (including mine). They sent instructions on how to fix it (took less than 10 minutes) and will be giving a $10 credit on each of the next 3 month's bills. Not bad for having the service interrupted for less than a day.

I did complain, after waiting 40 minutes on hold to speak with someone only for them to confirm that they were experiencing "widespread outages" I believed they called it. I have been credited for the entire month but that doesn't help my worry that someday it will be out and I will have an emergency and need to use a phone!! I will switch services with the next issue!!

I have Primus as well, and when they had the upgrade issue two weeks ago, my box would not reset. They decided to send me a new box. To make a long story short, after 2 weeks of phone calls (they didn't ship the box out the first two phone calls, then it sat in their warehouse the next 2 phone calls) I finally have phone service again. Overall I've been happy with the phone service, but they definitely lack in customer service. Many of the employees in their call centre are rude and really couldn't care less that you're being inconvenienced.

we have cogeco home phone and have not had a problem with it yet. we just got it three weeks ago and it is great for long distance calling for sure. hope rogers gets it fixed for you.

LOL we tried switching to Rogers home phone back when they started it a couple years ago I guess it was and Bell released the line to Rogers and it took them 3 weeks to get it connected on teh Rogers side so we were without a home phone for 3 weeks. Then when we did get it the number was switched to somone else in our neighbourhood and it took about another week to get it sorted out from there. We finally called Bell and they switched us back no questions asked and no re connect ee or anything Rogers on the other hand wanted to charge us 200 dollars for cancelling after our 30 day grace period LOL.

On the bright side...I did get a free DVD for switching - but I'm switching back for sure!!

Wow, very intersting to be reading this thread after the 2 months of nightmare service from Rogers.

We have a primary and a destictive ring number... I would say about 60-75% of primary numbers come through, and about 10% of the distictive ring numbers come through.

The caller hears it ring as normal, but nothing rings on our end. We didn't even realize for 3 weeks after install until someone mentioned it!

Needless to say, we have had missed calls and intermittent service for 2 months. I think we are on our 7th "ticket" being open, with two tech visits to our home. When I asked for a service credit, they offered me the $4.00 per month for the distinctive ring as a refund.

I cannot beleive how they treat a $6,000/yr. customer (Home Phone, Internet, Cable, Cell). Needless to say, I am investiagting other options (primus TBB, Vonage?), but Rogers appears to be willing to loose the REST of my business over a $100.00 credit.

DO NOT GO TO ROGERS HOME PHONE! Leave it to the phone people!

Steve

Oh Steve, I totally feel your pain!! For some reason, when they hooked ours up, we had call waiting which I never asked for nor wanted and so I called to ask them why I had this and they said I wasn't paying for it so they couldn't explain it so they put me through to a tech. The tech tells me that all Rogers phone have that when they first get installed and that all I had to do is press *72 (or whatever the number was) on my phone to disconnect it - THANKS FOR TELLING ME!@$%&*!

We had thise 2 tyopes of rings also until I pressed this number and now I don't hear those rings different anymore. Rogers told us those rings are long distance vs local....but I don't trust anything they say.

You should be asked to be put through to Customer care next time and be very clear that you are looking to move all of your business - they gave me a month ($40) without even batting an eye!

Good luck and let me know who you go with. We are shopping around too!

I don't think that VOIP is such a great idea (at least at the momemnt).
Why?
1)Because it goes throught the Internet,if there are problems with the server there will be no service (or least limited)
2)If the VOIP service is tied into a modem /receiver of some sort,it depends on 120v power (if the power goes out,you loose your phones....unless you have a UPS battery back or something)
JMHO

This is true. However in the past 2years I think I've had 1 day with cable service interruption. And while many people do have regular corded phones at home I know at least 3 households in my family that only have cordless phones so they'd be in the same position if the power goes out whether or not they had VOIP.

My phone bill went from $90 a month to $30 - for that difference I'm willing to take my chances and use my cell phone if the power goes out.

We have Vonage and never had a problem with it, except for the lack of VPN support, but if that isn't an issue for you, I say, "go for it."

with our Rogers Home Phone services (knock on wood). I guess maybe we've been lucky ...
