Received confirmation from DVC today. Wanted a Standard Studio, lucky to get a Preferred BWV Studio. When I booked the CM indicated that the only room requests they would accept were: Smoking/Non & Handicapped.

My letter indicates: Studio Garden/pool view. Guess I can forget a view of the Boardwalk, anyone know what that view is called in DVC-speak? A pool view would be entertaining (despite my aversion to creepy clowns).

Must be missing something, if Preferred Views cover garden & pool views, what's left for the Standard view? Please don't say: dumpsters, bus stops, walls of buildings.

We had a standard view a few years ago that overlooked the front entrance and drive. BWV has three types of views: Boardwalk, Preferred (which is garden, pool, etc) and Standard. I think the smallest number of rooms is the Boardwalk View rooms.

At BWV there are three views, with two point structures. There is standard view which overlooks the front drive of the resort. Preferred view is broken into two categories and cost the same number of points. Preferred pool/garden (what you have bookd) overlooks the pools and gardens of BWV. Prefereed Boardwalk View is exactly that, a guaranteed room overlooking the Boardwalk.

a standard view has either the entrance road (drive way) or parking lot in their views.

I happen to like standard view - I learned to dislike that silly clown in the pool - it gets on your nerves after 5 visits all looking at it. :goodvibes

I'm currently waitlisted for a Standard Studio. Guess I'll call Member Services & ask, again, to waitlist for a Preferred Boardwalk View. I just knew I'd find the answere here - love this site.

Forgot to say that I stayed at BWV again last month and had a preferred view which they told me would be garden or pool. Our room overlooked the grassy area between the verandah and the bike rentals (I think it's called the Village Green?). ALMOST a Boardwalk view. Good enough for us. We were probably directly above the art museum (can't remember the name of it). We could see Spoodles, the bakery, ESPN, and some of the higher Epcot fireworks.

Standard view generally is view of the parking lot. No dumpster/wall views that I am aware of. I actually like watching the comings and goings at the front entrance.

If you look at this picture:

http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/bwalk.jpg

All the rooms on the left are the Inn. All the rooms on the right are the Villas.

The BW View is only those few rooms directly facing Cresent Lake.
Standard View (almost always) are those rooms facing the drive. Or the area of the map above the BW View rooms on the same "side" of the hall.

Almost all the rooms "across the hall" from both BW and SV rooms and in those three extensions are Preferred View. I say almost because there were (are) some rooms over there that have been SV.

The path to Epcot is down in the corner with the dancing couple. MGM is a fifteen minute hike from the baton twirler in the upper right. The only elevators in the resort are where the villas meet the lobby (the lobby is the center area which connects the Inn and the Villas).

This one is a little larger and slower to load:

Well...we had a prefered view of the parking lot. All of the descriptions of the standard room, seem to describe what I had. We were first level....8.5 miles from the lobby....overlooked the parking lot. If we looked to the left, we could see the main entrance. There was some sort of pond outside the window, however, it did not add to the view.

Personally, I would not waste the points for the view that we had.

kim - do you remember your room number - if so call MS immediately and see if they can give your the different in points between a standard and a preferred view - it definitely sound like you got a standard room.

duplicate - how come some BBS sites on this board allows you to delete messages and others don't.

Kim,
I had a very similar view in 2003. Primarily of the valet parking lot and a service area driveway. We had a narrow canal below us and we could see TOT to the right only if we were standing out on the balcony. It was room 4131. We were about 3rd from the end of the hallway. I called MS upon our return home, who in turn put me on a 3-way with the BWV and they would not budge on refunding me the difference between SV and PV points. They insisted because I had a view of the water that this was PV. I let it drop.
If you look at the second link in Crisi's post, our room was in the pink section at the very upper right (on the curved section---overlooking the canal and valet parking lot).

Thanks - maps helped alot, should be interesting to see what view we "draw" @ checkin.
