There are two gas staions just outside OIA that are jacking up prices on gas and not posting them. They are Sun Gas and the Suncoast Gas stations. They are charging close to $6 at the pump. Here's an article:

Mods, Sorry if I have this posted in the wrong place. I just want to warn My DVC friends.

we pre-paid at time of renting our car the last 2 trips dn. one in March & then again this June. We were told at the rental counter that if we did not pre-pay for gas that we had to provide a gas reciept from a station no more then 10 miles from the airport. In June it was 3.59 a gallon and may have been 5 cents more then what we saw in the area. You just return the car on fumes!

All of the Hess stations in Orlando have good gas prices, and they're all over the place.

It seems the Hess stations in WDW have some of the better prices in the area.

Makes me mad at my local stations because gas in WDW is usually cheaper than home.

In Dec. Budget charged me for 2 gallons of gas because I filled up at the Hess by BWV. They said that was too far away. This was the first time I have had a problem and I have rented from Alamo, Budget and National many, many times at MCO.

We had a similar experience this June, can't recall the name but it was a gas station just before you get to the oultet mall, just before Mary Queen of the Universe on Vineland. They were charging $5.49 for reg unleaded, the other gas stations were between $3.58 and 3.79. I was running low, went in and asked if the price at the pump was a mistake and they said "no" without batting an eyelash.

People were pulling in and right back out, I can' imagine how they benefited from this! No one was buying! I paid $3.58 on 535!

We fill up at DW, drive straight to the airport, and never had a problem as the needle is still on Full.

We also never had any problem....until our trip in March. That was the 1st time I was told that if we did not pre-pay for the gas we would need to provide a sales ticket for a gas station no more then 10 miles away. I was told the same thing in June with a different rental company. I did not take a chance to save a nickle a gallon. I have filled up 1/2 way between Daytona and MCO in the past and never had a problem. My guess is that a half to gallon of gas out of each car adds up worldwide.:confused3

Besides a sign violation, the state's AG should sue for price gouging.
(Locally a few stations shot up gas prices to $6 after some event like Katrina?, and eventually had to pay fines due to a similar suit.

They actually featured those stations on the ABC Nightly News in Feb/March, so we were prepared when we rented a car for out DCL trip at the end of March. But it obviously hit home, because their prices were in-line with everyone else when we came back to MCO. They have obviously moved them again if you just experienced it. What a shame that people take advantage of others.

Florida does not have a price sign requirement. The city of Orlando recently enacted a sign requirement which the stations are fighting in court.

The state won't get involved in the pricing because the prices are always high.

As others have said, use the Hess stations on property. Their prices are always close to the local market's low. If you forget then the Hess just before the on ramp at exit 6 for 417 is fine as well.

There are several gas stations just a little further north on SR436 (S Semoran Blvd) that sell gas at much more reasonable prices. None of which are more than 3 or 4 miles from OIA.

I always get gas at Hess on World Drive or by BW and have never had a problem with National. I noticed the station right before the 417 ramp was actually cheaper on my last trip.

The only time I can recall when the state gets involved with price gouging is when a Hurricane comes through.

I just wanted to say thanks, from a friend. We usually drive and therefore don't spend money on gas near the airport. But yesterday my close friends arrived at MCO and rented a car. They said they had seen the stations and had planned on stopping there when they turned the car in. Needless to say they were very thankful of the warning from the DISboards.

As someone who lives in Florida and travels to Orlando for work and pleasure, I have found that the Hess stations on property are always right on price-wise for the area. I've even pulled onto property just to fill up - just getting on Disney property for those few minutes makes me smile and can turn a bad day around!

We pulled in one of those stations and pulled right back out. Travelled down the road about a half a mile to a 7-11 and filled up for a normal rate. Just bypass those 2 stations and there's other stations not far down the road.

We always fill up at that Hess (the one just before you get on 417) and have never had a problem with National or Avis.
