Don't Forget Your Tires!

Also just so you know if you store the camper for more than a week you should park on a non poris platform (plastic cutting bords from wally world) work great for this this also helps the tires life span. :thumbsup2

A lot of people don't realize that concrete and just plain old dirt/grass leaches the oils out of tires and the chemical bonds break down. Usage stays this process off. Most RV's sit. They sit in barns, they sit under cover, they sit in the open. Tires that sit are tires that rot. This is why you hear more of dry rot in RV tires than on passenger vehicle tires. Most cars/trucks/vans are used on a daily basis, and spinning tires and the heat usage generates keeps the oils in motion and keeps the tires pliable.

The plastic cutting boards are a great idea. It might help slow the process down. I wonder if the newer cutting board sheets would work?

Thanks for the tip :-) Mine sit on concrete.

I can't express enough how the tire pressure monitors can save you. The one's I bought also have a temperature monitors. I've talked to a few people who noticed some temp difference so they stopped to see what was up and they saw either bubbling or separation starting. I feel less stress when I can look at the monitor and see what my tires 30 feet away are doing.

I didn't know about tire temperature monitors, Donnie. I'll have to remember to ask Rick if he knows about them. One of these days, IF we ever get to retire and start using the MH for trips other than the Fort, we might be glad to have those on the MH and on whichever vehicle we end up towing. Thanks!

I've heard more than once that pressure/temp monitors have helped people avoid disaster. I don't have them yet, but they are on my list. I do have an infrared thermometer I use at every rest stop to check tire temps. You can pick one up at any autoparts store.

Donnie, do you have a link to the monitors that you have? Curious about the ones that have temp monitoring ability.
