If you want to see the parade the way I was hoping to see it today, check out the Dis on you tube. They posted the parade video about a month ago. This way you can see it without all the fluff and gag![]()
Of course this show is not about us (recent or regular returning guests), it has always been about promoting the parks, latest additions and now Disney Vacations, all intended to attract new visitors. Why show the actual parade when you would rather have visitors come to the parks to see it live?
I grew up watching it, and it was absolutely an actual parade at the time. They still promoted the parks, but the telecast was a lot more like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (from the point where the parade hits Herald Square) than what today's broadcast was.
It's entirely possible to actually show a parade and still promote the parks. TBH, I don't even feel like they promoted the parks well today. The singers who were performing? Yes. Aulani? Yes. DLR and WDW? Not so much.
Here is the Christmas parade at MVMCP this year as recorded by the good old Dis!!!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt_SZeKCPJ0 Here's another one if you want a different angle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAZrGiPJXMs I wasn't there at parade taping, but I'm wondering if they even did the stop and start run of the parade like they used to do when they taped (I have been there during that once a few years ago), since they clearly weren't planning on showing the parade. You missed nothing this morning. It wasn't called a parade this year, and they did not show the parade. It was at least 50%, if not more of Robin Roberts and Tim Tebow at WDW, some dark haired guy I don't know at DL, and Sarah Hyland at Aulani talking- and probably more than that. Add in some celebrities talking about how their kids love Frozen and a few little blips of people surprise meeting family members or friends they have not seen in a long time at WDW. Then add in a bunch of performances by people most kids under 10 don't even know like Train, Gavin Degraw, Trisha Yearwood, Trey Songs, Lucy Hale, Prince Royce and Alex and Sierra, some of who did 2 songs. The ones your tweens probably knew were 2 Disney Channel teens (which DD did like) and Ariana Grande (who DD does not care for at all), and then the really talented girl that sings Let It Go on You Tube. Then there was 5 minutes sprinkled throughout of a combination of characters, one Christmas parade float ;and the first float and last part of the Festival of Fantasy parade, and one cute Olaf number.Other than that, the only time I saw the parade was in the be right back blips as they broke for commercial. I should have known it was going to be trouble when they showed the tin soldiers, reindeer and Santa in the first 5 minutes of the broadcast.I missed the parade this morning. From what I'm reading I didn't miss much. I would like to see the actual parade though. I can't find it on youtube.
Mickey say OUCH!![]()
Ugh. Finally just got to watch it, and totally agree. We love Tim Tebow, but he's no NPH. My DS10 said "that sucked" (and was promptly reprimanded--although I couldn't suggest a more appropriate word LOL). Just...awful. Hope next year goes back to being a parade.I enjoyed last year, especially the amazing opening with Neil Patrick Harris. There were some awful performances, but it still had some looks at the parks. This year was just awful. The scripted banter was painful, it was all about the performances, and even the Frozen stuff was worse than I expected. There was just something really off about the whole thing.
Haha, your comment is spot on!!! Even my daughter who saw that segment commented that it looked like the singers were "on something" or "coming off of something" - but I'm sure that's not the case. And she said the singers definitely looked like they did not want to be there or at least to be there with each other. I agree - a fun, cutesy love song turned into a monotone lament by two bored slackers.
I've got to take offense at that comment as the couple singing that song (Love Is an Open Door) were Alex & Sierra who were last years winners of the Xfactor & Alex's mom is a personal friend who was actually there for the two day taping (weather was horrible here the first taping day). They sang it the way Disney wanted it done. Just like the entire celebration was done the way Disney wanted it done. I actually watched for the singers & not the parade as I just saw it two weeks ago. Yes each years parade/celebration has been different but some of us like it that way!

We love Alex and Sierra! We cheered for them from the first time they were onscreen on the X factor. I thought their rendition was cute, but I don't think kids tend to like it much when songs they listen to over and over get changed up much. DD didn't mind that one too much since she does love them!
