We all know about the importance of good shoes for walking the World but it wasn't until I re-read UG that I discovered socks! This weekend, I purchased new Nike running shoes for the family at our local Nike Outlet and checked out the sock selection. There were so many to choose from so I purchased a variety. I must say that I'm in LOVE with the Nike Air Max sock. They are constructed mostly from nylon and are the thinnest, most silky sock I've ever worn. I didn't think it would make a big difference until I put on my shoes and went walking. My feet felt cool and comfortable. Even DH commented about how nice his feet felt in his socks. SOCKS! of all things. Just wanted to share with everyone since I've gotten so many good tips from these boards. The only problem is that at $4.99 a pair, it will be a small fortune to outfit this family of 5 for eight days at Disney!

Your right. The correct sock can make all the difference. I am a runner and it took me quite a while and lots of different brand names to find the right one for me. But you can find socks that don't cost quite so much. I really like Gold Toe. They make many different models, but all are pretty reasonable and can be found at Target.
Also, if you have a Road Runner Sports in your area, check them out for socks.

I've found most socks with Cool Max pretty comfortable.

My finicky, middle-aged feet seem to like the ones with the arch support best. Not really an arch support, but slightly tighter knit in that area.

good tip about the socks, they do make a difference. I'm going to have to check out the Nike Shox socks. THanks

I realized this from the same source before we went last trip. I was reading up from different threads on which one's everyone liked. So I tried the one's that wick away the sweat, bought them at Wal-mart for myself and my daughter and we LOVED them! They made all the difference!!! I won't wear anything different now, I use to wear gold toe and switched to the new one's now. They're the Danskin brand, they are white and pink. I realize that the boys can't wear those, but I'm sure there is a kind for them that does the same thing. My feet were very happy, and didn't sweat at all! My daughter didn't complain once about her feet hurting or blistering.

YES! That's all the terminology I couldn't think of when I was writing. Thank you Taja!!! I also got the same arch support with the cool max, cool max was the key from what everyone was saying in the threads I read over. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

AGREED! I love good socks! I have tons of Nike running socks (I'm kind of a Nike freak, screw Adidas!) and I also have tons of Smartwool socks. Both brands run spendy but I definitely believe that one must take care of their feet as they are what hold you up.

I can live with $10/pair. No big deal, it's for my feet.

I've been to disney world about 7 times in my life and im only 15. With the sock issue, i think you should bring double the number of socks you would usually bring cause it feels so good to go back to your resort from a long day walking the whole park from open to close and put on a fresh pair of socks. I've been doing ever since about the third time I went. Or you could just go with flip-flops, its alot more comfortable then people lead to believe!

:goodvibes

Can you or should you wear socks with crocs?

you can and if your feet are rubbing the crocs then yes you should, before you gethot spots or blisters. You'll know one way or the other pretty much after the first day how your feet will do w/o socks.

Can you or should you wear socks with crocs?

I wore the super low-cut socks with my Crocs last summer. It wasn't my intention to wear them, but on the second day I wore my Easy Spirit sneakers and got HORRIBLE hot spots on both feet. I had to put those Band Aid blister pads over the hot spots, then wear socks.

On the subject of socks, make sure your socks are high enough that your shoes don't rub the skin on the back of your heels. DS was wearing some Keen shoes this weekend (we were out of town) and the socks I packed were the really low ones. He stopped at least 150 times in 30 minutes to mess with his socks! :headache: I ended up buying him some higher socks just so he would walk more than 2 steps without stopping to tug on them.
