Phone rings and it's my DD.. She's got the phone on speaker and I can hear my DGD in the background..

DD says, "Mom, we have something to tell you.. XXXXX, tell grandma what happened at school today.."

I hear my DGD saying rather shyly, "No, I don't want to tell her.. Can you do it?"

DD says, "Are you sure you don't want to tell grandma yourself?"

DGD replies again - in her shy little voice - "I feel kind of funny about it.. I'd rather you tell her.."

DD says, "Well - XXXXX came home today with a sheet of paper that says she's on the "principal's list"..

WHAT?????????????? My mind is racing in every direction.. She's never had one single problem in school.. Gets excellent grades.. Has tons of friends.. All the teachers love her to pieces.. WHAT???????:eek::eek:

Of course my first words are: "Why? What did she do??":eek::eek:

DD's reply? "She got her report card today and her average is 99.4.. In the middle school they have "honors", "high honors", and the "principal's list" (which is the equivalent of a deans list) So - she's on the principal's list!!.."

If I could have reached through the phone, I would have STRANGLED my DD!!

Of course I talked to my DGD after that - told her how proud I was of her - but I'm telling you - when I see my DD this weekend when I move back there for the winter, I may just have to knock her into next year! :scared:

Kids! Even the ADULT ones!! :headache:

I'm sure DD gave you a scare, but congratulations to your DGD on her grades. I'm sure she worked hard to get them. :)

That's like when my dd came home and told me she *had* to eat lunch with the principal. I was like wth did you do!?!

It's a huge honor and they only do it for a few kids per month that make a special list and they get to eat lunch with her and get a certificate.

C.Ann I know this is off topic, but I read your posts and I imagine you in a snug little cabin upstate. Is it anything like that - and will you miss it when you leave?

Congratulations to your DGD! That is quite an accomplishment and I am sure you are very proud of her.

I'm with you on the phone call though. I hate it when people don't just say what they are calling about and make me wonder if something bad happened. One of my kids, who is now older, calls me and says, "Um." Then he hesitates for about 30 more seconds with, "Uh." Finally, I'm like WHAT!?

Or when a relative calls me and leaves a message that just says, "Call me when you get this message." I don't know if it's an emergency or they are just saying hi. I wish they would leave a clue on the message.

Hmmm.. "Snug little cabin"? Well - as "snug" as a seasonal place can be when the weather starts to get colder.. LOL..

It's quite small.. At one time there were two bedrooms - that had beds built into the walls.. A double bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top.. When my DH passed away in Jan. of 2005 and I came back up here for the first time in March, I just couldn't go back to sleeping in "our" room - "our" bed - so I had my son-in-law rip the beds off the walls, knock the wall down between the two rooms, and make it one big bedroom just for me..

Other than that, I have a combination kitchen/living room area and a bathroom.. That's it! :goodvibes Just the right size for me and very easy to keep clean..

I also have a good size piece of property (two lots - which most people up here don't have) and my DD and her family bring their travel trailer up every year and set it up in my lower lot for the season.. There's also enough room down there for my DD's IL's to bring up whatever type of motor home they happen to have in a given year and park that there on weekends.. I also have a permit which gives us a private beach area on the lake..

My place is rustic - I've been spending my summers here for 58 years now (my dad originally built the place when I was 2) - but it suits me fine.. Guess you could say I'm one of the "early settlers"..;)

Yes - I will definitely miss it when I leave.. Not just the cabin, but the entire area - the laid back attitude of the yr. round folks - the scenery - my church group - watching the wildlife - but in 5 months or less, I can come back again!!!!!!! :)

Congratualtions to your DGD :)
Sounds like the kind of phone call my family would make to get to me

Your place sounds great!
