No, that is different. And this friend is from Georgia maybe that is the problem.

That's the way it still is in the South. It is completely normal to hear Hun, Hunny, Sweetie, Darling, etc from people you don't know here. However, it isn't done in a condescending way, that's just the way people talk.

I'm a nurse in an urban hospital.
Being called "Hun" is the least of my worries.
I've been called things where I had to ask the person "Just exactly where on my body is that located?".

Well I'm definitley a GRITS (girl raised in the south) and it doesn't bother me one bit if used in a friendly way. And trust me - we southern girls will know if it is or isn't.

Same here! Nothing to get my panties in a twist.. I really can think of much worse.Call me hun, babe, sweetheart, sweetie, doll, and I'll like it.I call everybody baby, and no one has complained yet, at least not to my face. lol

Okay, now THAT'S just plain wrong. Definitely, crossing the line..I hate grits!
