Don't Call Me Fairy!

So Disney is running an add for the new Tink DVD-
and in it they Say "staring The worlds most famous fairy"

Okay - I thought she was a Pixie.
Hence - Pixie Hallow.

Not so sure I agree with the thesaurus quoted above, but I thought I'd throw that out there for discussion.

So, the topic is, "Is she or isn't she," eh?

I love faeries. So I'm going with her being a Faerie (in the truest Spencerian tradition) that lives in Pixie Hollow.

I believe it's Cornwall where they say, piskie instead of pixie?

I'm still miffed that they have Tinkerbell talking now. One of the things that made her so unique was that she had no voice.....to humans anyway.....and that her facial expressions were what communicated what she was thinking.

Why, Disney? Why must you continue to do this?

I'm also mad that they gave Wendy, of Wendy's restaurants, a voice last year.....but that's another topic.

I guess I tend to think of pixie as a subset of fairy. Fairy being pretty much any miniature winged humanoid creature and pixies being a . . .umm.. maybe. . the right word is not comming to mind.. michevious and/or sassy, I guess variety of fairy.

I did not know Tink talks now. I agree that takes away much of her appeal. Her expressions (including how she expresses herself with her flight path at times) are what make her.

So have we left the stepford princesses behind in favour of stepford faries now?

If you want to get really technical, the term Faerie (or "fay") refers to a large group of small magical creatures including gnomes, brownies, leprechauns, elves, and others. Pixies are also a type of Faerie.

So all Pixies are Faeries, but not all faeries are pixies

I'm SO with you on this one MM. For me, part of her mystery was she had no voice, we had to imagine....but then, I'm the girl who likes old movies, black & white's, I don't like when they colorize old movies...but then, that's a whole other story too!

Went to Ireland this year. The tour guide was very into Irish mythology including fairies and leprechauns. It was very fascinating.

He referred to the leprchauns as the trailer trash of the fairies.

Leprechauns are the trailer trash? Shoemakers to the faeries, but trailer trash?

Wally a pixie? Hmmmm... maybe more an elf. An Elf has a bit of an evil streak going on, you know? And they are a step up from a Brownie, although a brownie is a touch more magical. Then again, a pixie can be quite mischievous, and that could apply to our Wally. Sometimes.

Tink talking it total sacrilege and someone will rue the day, mark my words. Faeries do NOT take kindly to being mess with or misrepresented. Not a'TALL!

Today it's almost as if the people making the movies need to force feed everything to their audience. Nuance and subtlety don't seem to exist in film any more.
