Don't attack me!!

In general I don't think a scary costume at a "Not So Scary" party designed for small children is appropriate or polite. Consider the impact you might have on those around you and whether it's worth it.

I'm pretty sure that the party, as is all of WDW, is designed for EVERYONE - not just kids. Or should I not go trick or treating as an adult?

Nobody is saying adults shouldn't enjoy the party. It is disingenuous, however, to pretend that it wasn't a concept meant to appeal to children and that adults spoiling it for them is somehow the same as adults indulging in the all ages appropriate activities.

by any means, go and trick or threat BUT do not forget it is Not So Scary Party , it is not meant to be scary, there are kids around. Otherwise go to Universal, no little kids there.

Gotta say the Naughty Nemo wasn't as bad as I thought it could be!

As for the original topic...I think we could do with a little more details before we are able to say one way or the other, how scary are we talking?

Children are encouraged to attend the party in costume.

FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILD AND OTHERS, PLEASE ADHERE TO THE GUIDELINES BELOW.

Halloween costumes should NOT:

Obstruct the guest's view or interfere with their ability to board/unload from attractions and/or the Walt Disney World Resort transportation system (including monorails, ferry boats and motorcoaches).
Drag on the ground.
Contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally stike another guest.
Be offensive to other guests.
Contain any weapons which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

Disney parks are not designed only for children, nor is the party designed or geared nsolely for little children. But in contrast to Universal's event, which is not recommended for anyone under 13, Not So Scary is a family event. It's suggested costumes that aren't suitable for say, a family party, shouldn't be worn.

But they did let Naughty Nemo in.

So is a zombie scary? I've seen them at the party. Is a vampire scary? I've seen them at the party. Are pirate ghosts scary? I've seen them at the party.

My point being that one person's definition of scary is not the same as another. No, I don't want to see people running around with bloody chainsaws and fake brains hanging out of their head but I have seen kids scared by zombies, vampires and ghosts. If MNSSHP is truly meant to not be "scary" then the CMs at the gate should NOT allow those types of costumes since kids can be scared by them.

The idea of them denying entrance to any costume that might possibly scare a child (zombies, vampires, ghosts, Frankenstein's monster, etc) seems kind of absurd...just don't go overboard with the gore.

depends on how realistic they are, yes they can be very scary and they can be just spooky. While everyone has his own fears, we are talking about what generally considered scary . lets put it this way, there is a huge difference between Nightmare on the Elm Street and Hocus Pocus. BTW, who said CMs do not turn people at the gate.

Go for it....i think its funny to see little kids get scared by costumes.Last year I took dd to Walmart and we went in the Halloween section . I was walking ahead of her and Im walking and talking. I grabbed a scary mask put it on and whipped around and screamed "MONSTER MOMMY!!" Oh man she almost wet her pants she was so freaked out !

It's "Mickey's Not SO Scary Halloween Party".
It's NOT "Mickey's NOT Scary Halloween Party"
The word SO changes the meaning quite a bit. It's still scary, but not SO scary.
:goodvibesGot It?

A few years ago when my DS was 21 he wore a black suit, black shirt & black tie. He put black gel in his hair and made his face up as a skeleton with black & white makeup. He was scary, but not SO scary!

What is Halloween without a little bit of Scary?

I'm pretty sure that zombies, vampires and ghosts are considered scary with the possible exception of Casper the Friendly Ghost. Since I've personally seen guests dressed as zombies, vampires and ghosts on multiple occasions it's apparent that the CMs aren't turning these people away at the gate. So the whole concept of the party being "not so scary" is relative and falls somewhere within the myriad of other vague WDW policies - IT DEPENDS ON WHO YOU ASK.

So to the OP, wear what you want and use common sense but odds are you'll probably be admitted to the party. Just be prepared to deal with the situation in case you run in to a problem (dress in scary layers that can be removed I guess).

go, dress up, have fun.

as long as you're not hiding and jumping out of the corner saying BOO or whatnot i see no issues here.

i was at the party on 9/30 and saw plenty of "inappropriate" costumes. male and female. didn't ruin anyone's night as far as i could see.

Nemo doesn't even come to my mind when I see that LOL, I was thinking it looked more like a naughty piece of candy corn.

:rotfl2: naughty candy corn is how I feel every nov 1st after overindulging in dcs' candy

Thankfully, I think Disney's rule of not allowing masks takes away most of the really scary options, so as long as the OP doesn't go overboard with fake blood or anything, he'll be fine.

Most of the times I remember being truly scared as a child around Halloween were because of someone wearing a full-face mask. Like the year my dad wanted to walk us around trick-or-treating in a black robe and something similar to this:

Yeah, no. He had three freaked out and wailing children just looking at it before he ever put it on. :rotfl:

And hell, even as an adult, when I walked into Party City and saw THIS thing in the costume aisle, I kept my distance! :rotfl2:

Here is a not-so-scary Queen of Hearts (with her Flamingo) and the Cheshire Cat (tail not visible) bothering her.

God I am getting old..When someone said "naughty nemo" I thought of Captain Nemo ( 20,000 leagues under the sea) and not Finding Nemo...LOL.I was trying to figure out how naughty Capt nemo can be...:rotfl2:
