done the drive alone?

Hey DISers!
Has anyone ever done the drive to WDW from Ontario alone before? If I do infact do it, I will be a single nearly-26-year-old. I'm trying to think of the problems I could run in to besides the obvious....any ideas? Any stories? Anything would be appreciated! Thanks all.

I've done the drive alone with my then 2 year old (he's 20 now so it was a while ago). I took two days to drive and left at around 4am and then stopped for the night in Kentucky before it got dark. I was always careful to stop before dark each night that I was driving as I wanted to check in to a motel while it was still light out. I didn't have any problems though. My one main thing though was to have the car thoroughly checked out before I started to drive as I didn't want any problems along the way that would potentially leave me stranded.

Otherwise it was fairly uneventful.

iv done it alone drove non stop to the other side of atlanta boy was i tierd just stop eat rest in a well used rest stop gas up during the day and keep snacks handie you will be fine get a cell phone to keep in touch with family or friends to stay awake.i live in kitchener go half way and get a safe hotel room. you can have some quiete time iw ould love to go alone but wife wonnt be happy. i want a road tripppppppp

All though I have not driven from ONT I have from NB . I would recomnend Joining CAA if you arnt allready ( Get trip ticks & maps + the 1 800 # would come in real handy if you brakedown or even have somthing simple like a flat ,
leave real early and stop before it gets real dark Take a cell phone and a car charger( so you wont get cought with a problem and a dead cell phone )Dress like you would at home not like a Tourist . Dont keep large amounts of cash in your wallet ( Flashing large amounts of cash is asking for trouble esp single .leave a copy of your route with some one and call them at most stops so that they know where you are ( Get a PC phone card to keep cost down )hope this helps

i was just wundering if your going alone why not just fly out of buffalo and rent a car???its $150.00 return canadian.your there in 2 and a half hours ......but then it is a nice drive if your not in a hurrie...was just wundering......thats all

As canron points out, the fare from Buffalo is very reasonable. I am much older than you are, but when I was your age, I used to drive between Toronto and Montreal just for weekends. But, the drive to Orlando is so far that I really don't think I would ever enjoy doing it alone.

Also, depending on which part of Southern Ontario you are in, you can fly out of Detroit for as little as 53.00 each way, taxes included.

But, if you do drive, drive safetly. I suppose the real motivation is DISNEY! Be sure to stop at the Disney welcome center in Ocala. It pumps you up for the rest of the drive.

Canron - you're right, it is very easy to fly (though I usually fly from detroit as it's closer than Buffalo) and I have no need to rent a car as I just use Magical Express. But I've never done a road trip alone and I'd like to, and I also haven't done the drive in a long time and I have great memories from the lovely I-75! I would include the drive as part of the trip. I'd love to see spots in Tenn. and GA again especially. I really just wanted to see if the drive is something I could do alone. I mean, I'm a very independant person
(solo trip planned for sept. which is when I would drive), but I worry about things too like breaking down (yes, CAA have a lovely little card in my wallet! Bless them!) and getting lost and all that good stuff that can happen.

I have driven down and back with my DD10. We left Ontario (near London) at 4:00 a.m. and stopped just north of Atlanta for the night. Got up fairly early and drove through Atlanta without any problems (it was a Sunday morning and there was literally no traffic - kinda spooky, actually). We were at our Disney resort by 2:00 p.m. I did buy Along I-75 and found it to be a lifesaver. We turned the pages as we drove along, it seemed to make the ride easier. It also lists all the services at each exit which was great if we needed a break.
Having said all that the next time we went we flew from Detroit and rented a car. It was much less stressful and it gave us more time for Disney!
