For those of you who donate household items, clothes, etc - how do you track what you give for back up with your receipt from Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc - we have a lot of items that need to be donated (3 different families) and a yard sale is not an option (no place available). Thanks,

I am an Excel queen, so I use Excel spreadsheets for everything. I track what we give, then use Turbo Tax (or It's Deductible) to determine the value of the items.

I use itsdeductible.com. Fantastic site and it ends up feeding into Turbo Tax when I file my taxes.

We itemized everything so first as I'm packing it up I write down everything: detail is key. For example, there is a difference in polo shirts versus button down versus tee. Then we use turbo tax for values.

i usually take a picture of the items with my phone as well as making a list to attach to the receipt.

I use itsdeductible.com it's marvelously easy to use, and I also take photos of any larger $$ items (furniture, electronics, etc).

I second this, especially if this is not your usual amount of in-kind donations, i.e. well above what you would normally deduct in a given year.

I do this, too. Then when I use TurboTax which uses ItsDeductible to track what the items are worth. Be specific when itemizing clothing because they track t-shirts, dress shirts, polo shirts, etc.
