Donald's Safari Breakfast..

I just booked a ressie for Donald's Safari Breakfast for My Boyfriend & I for 8:40. I was hoping to get a little sooner as to not interfe with 'park' time. but It's ok. If you have been to this could you tell me your likes & Dislikes.

We don't have any kids, Just us two, both in our 20's. Is it weird we are going to this? Is it mostly for kids? I had read on a dining review that a woman and her husband went and they didn't have children and still had fun.

I think you will really enjoy it. The food was very good. It has your typical American breakfast items but also has some really tasty African inspired food. My favorite was the ham with a sweet and spicy mustard sauce. There will be a lot of children there, but I say that while you are at Disney World you need to set your inner child free! Hope you have a great time! We are going back in December and I can't wait!!

I have been twice, once around 10ish, one a little later. We really enjoyed this meal a lot. I am not sure if it always happens this way but since we have older children we were always seated in a quieter area. This made for a relaxing breakfast with some very great items. Definetely on our favorite list.

Food was really good. Buffet. Very crowded inside but not a problem. But I don't remember the characters doing anything but greeting at the tables because there's not much room in the dining area. Still, very nice. I'd keep trying for an earlier ADR or just try to go earlier anyway.

My husband and I go there all the time alone with no kids. we enjoy ourselves there the food is good and so are the juices...ENJOY! I promise you won't feel weird at all.

My husband and I ate there last month and it was fantastic. I saw lots of couples eating breakfast with no children.

We really liked the food at the buffet (and the jungle juice!). I remember it being noisy. We were in a small room. Not much there to absorb the sound.

Also took some time for ALL the characters to come to our table. We must have arrived between shifts because we missed 1 of the 4 and needed to wait for the whole group to back through for that one.

We were also late for our early ressie because our bus ran into a guy on a lawnmower. (no one was hurt) We had to fight though the rope drop crowd (bus fiasco held us up an hour), then the check-in line was ENORMOUS. UGH! So we plan for an early breakfast to get in the park and eat before rope drop and instead get put right in the heart of the crowd.

After all that, we're going again this year because it really was a good breakfast. This time we did a late morning ADR.

Don't worry about going to any character meals without kids - nothing wrong with it and you won't be the only kid-less couple there.

Tusker House breakfast is very popular on the DIS, so you will probably enjoy it. We don't particulary care for it mainly because of the atmosphere: cramped seating in a small room + very noisy and poor character interaction (very rushed).

I ate at the 'old' Donalds many times, so this year when I took a friend of mine to WDW, decided to give Tusker House and Donald a shot. We loved it. My friend, who hadn't been to WDW since '98, loved this meal. We had a ball with the characters, the food was excellent, the service was terrific.
We're headed back as a family in August...my dd is almost 17, so not a 'kid' anymore.
My only issue is that at Tusker House, Donald is no longer inside the restaurant. He used to be part of the regular characters, going from table to table in the old spot. But now, he is outside the actual restaurant. If you want a shot with Donald, you have to get into the line and wait. Photopass is there as well. But, it does add a significant amount of time to the meal. My friend and I just bypassed the Donald line and were seated right away.

DH and I are both in our 20's (ehhh..late 20's now!) and though we have kiddos we LOVED Tusker House. Even if you take away the characters (which were awesome and fun!) the food there was the best buffet we had while at disney. there were sooooo sooo many different choices that I didn't even know where to start lol. The only thing I regret is that this was our last meal during our 9 day stay and we were STUFFED beyond stuffed after eating on the DDP for that many days. This time around we are doing AK on our second day of arrival and scheduling this breakfast then. I want to be able to enjoy a breakfast there and actually taste the food.

Its a very fun and lively atmosphere! I think you guys will enjoy it as much as we did

I would suggest with the 8:40 time, one of you running and grabbing a fastpass to the safari right after 9:00, should be for the 9:30-10:30 time, which will work out great..

We had 8:50am ressies, got to the park fairly early, checked in and were seated by 8:30am. Try getting there early. It never hurts to try. If you can't check-in/get seated early you can get some great pictures of the tree of life with no body else around.

Definietly get a FP for the safari ride at 9am if you can't finish before rope drop. That way you don't have to rush through your meal.

Don't worry about being two adults without kids. It happens all the time. If I ever get to take a trip to Disney without my kids, I plan to do a few character meals with just me and my husband. We love the character meals, especially breakfasts before the parks open.

Tusker House was our favorite character breakfast (of 6) on our last trip. Enjoy it!!

On our last trip we ate at TH--It was me (mid-40s) and my DS and his BFF (teenaged boys)--
we all ready enjoyed ourselves. The teens didn't feel funny about
being there with the characters-they had fun. The food was very good and plenty of it.
We all also thought the atmosphere and theme were cool.
My Dsister and her DH are doing 2 Character Breakfast on there next trip---
they are in there 30s and 40s without kids--this is their 1st Disney trip
and they're really excited. I'm hoping to convert them to Disney lovers--
it has taken me 6 years of asking and this is the year they are coming with us.

We loved Tusker House character breakfast! The food was great and it was loads of fun. We saw several couples with no kids, so no big deal to go with just the two of you.

I'm curious to know if the Donald thing (not going around to the tables) is a new practice, as well. Last summer, he visited our table and we actually got to sing "happy birthday" to him because it was his birthday! It would seem strange to go to Donald's breakfast and not have him visit your table.

Anyway, I bet you'll have a blast and a really full tummy!

Regarding the wait in lne for Donald-- is this for restruant patrons only or is it opened to park guests too?


Is he there ONLY for pictures or does he sign books?

He is the reason we booked tusker house for breakfast

Re: Donald outside of restaurant - This just started in March. It is for restaurant patrons only.

Re: ADR time - I have posted about this many times on this board. If you are within 15-20 mins of park opening, you must get there earlier than your ADR time. The park managers close the park for safety reasons due to rope drop ceremony. No one, and I mean no one (we've been through this 2x now with park supervisors) gets through to restaurant. You must wait until rope drop is done - restaurant knows this, and so ADRs around park opening back up incredibly. Everyone is running behind at that time - it is very chaotic. Please get there earlier than your ADR time, and you should be escorted in by a restaurant CM, who will match your name to her ADR list.

RE: Size of restaurant - Someone mentioned the restaurant being small and cramped. This was the old Donald's breakfast - Tusker House is very big, and not cramped at all. A few tables on the side can be a bit close together, but the restaurant itself is very spacious, as there are several rooms available for seating, plus a huge buffet area that loads from 2 sides.
