Donald's Defiant Dashers Team Challenge

This is such and awesome team!!!! I'm glad I belong:goodvibes Good job everyone. BTW, don't push too hard on that hip flexor, IronZ...it is ok to slack off to heal.

I joined a running club this weeks and it has really helped my mileage (but not my sleep so much because we meet at 5:30) My totals for the week are 15.9 miles (WOW) and 2 hours 51 minutes! I'm so excited about my distance! The Azalea Trail Run (10k) is at the end of the month and I'm ready. I want to finish in under an hour, although I'll have to book it.

One question, team. I'm 5'6" and weigh around 195. In other words, I'm short and fat (and thanks to a razor, you can throw in bald, too). I don't look like I can run nearly 16 miles in a week. At my age (39), I know its tougher to lose weight than in your 20's, but, when am I going to start loosing. It's getting a little discouraging.

Have a great week, everyone and keep moving!!!!!

There is a quote in the story "The Hobbitt", "The mold of your life is in your hands to make".

I'm 56 and training for the 2011 Senior Olympics, sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm in control and need to make it happen. I'm just recovering and back in training after a battle with achillies tendonitis, I can do this and so can you.

Coming Back Stronger than ever Panda:hippie:

Great job team!!!!! :thumbsup2

Just wanted to post my totals for the week before we head out the door again...

Miles - 26.25
Minutes - 386

That was a 3K race, 2 walks, 2 bikes, and 2 swims ;)

--Lynnda pooh:

Lynnda, don't forget to count the race double miles if you didn't already!

Thanks, Ed...I'll probably water run this coming week to give it a little break (or a longer break, really, since I haven't run for 2 weeks). Running to make sure I didn't miss the airport-bound ME bus doesn't count, I don't think. :rotfl:

Had a lovely 2:10 bike ride today. Simply gorgeous weather, met up with about 12 friends. Awesome! :goodvibes :goodvibes Will check on mapmyrun to see how far, since I don't have computer on my bike right now. Measured it just now: a little more than 32 miles.

Time for chores now...:laundy:

I just have to offer MAJOR kudos to you guys...I have NO CLUE how you guys do it! Your mileage is just crazy good

Bubba...SOOO impressive :worship: those miles and hours are outrageous. I work in gyms all day long and don't have the time to put those miles and hours in. Unbelievable!!!! Do you work at the gym...saw you were training somebody? Another fellow fitness instructor maybe? :)

OptiMike: When is your next race? Your running mileage is mucho impressive!

Betsy: Take care of that hip flexor! I honestly hope you feel better soon and can hit the pavement running asap! :goodvibes

Thanks, AmyBeth! I probably need to come to your Pilates class to fix my poor ol' body! I'm travelling this next week, so will bring my yoga DVD with me.

Welcome to all the new members.

My totals for the week.

29.5 miles and 260 minutes.

Have a great week everyone.

Bill

Good morning and happy Sunday/new week, Dashers!

Great job on those miles/minutes, guys! To quote AmyBeth, those are some crazy good numbers being posted (and thanks for the props for the team, AmyBeth).

Betsy: pd for your injury. :wizard: Don't push yourself too hard and listen to your body. Remember, you've already put in tons of training, you want to get to the starting line as healthy as possible.

Ed: Well, sorry to tell you this, but after a couple of years of pretty committed regular running, I have gained weight (and don't give me that nonsense about muscle weighing more...). I'm a couple of inches taller than you, and a couple of dozen pounds heavier, but I do have a ridicuolous mane of thick hair, so maybe all that hair is weighing me down? Pass the razor, please. :lmao: I've just kind of stopped focusing on the scale and the numbers, and more on how I feel, both when running and in general. Keep putting in those great miles and you'll keep seeing improvement. I figure as long as I can go out there and churn out a 1/2, full, or this past year a Goofy, I am reasonably healthy, no matter what the BMI calculator tells me. But, hey, I will keep my fingers crossed for both of us that the scale moves in he right direction sooner or later!

Bryan: Happy birthday (a bit late)! Nice to see you allowed yourself to slack off a bit. :rotfl: Damn, those numbers are impressive!!

Bill: You stay strong, too! Don't get discouraged -- you are headed in the right direction, and there's a long way to go to the starting line. Just take it one week at a time! You are off to a great start.

Minnie: Good for you -- nice and consistent. I am right there with you -- I need spring and I need it now!

AmayCatBaker: Welcome to the team! I'm looking forward to getting to know you and sharing the journey!

Lisa in New England: (Or Tia in Alabama, or whoever you may be), welcome to you, too! Awesomely impressive job on the weight loss!! Please pass some motivation/will power over this way.

Sorry, if I missed anyone....I try to keep up, but am failing miserably. Work is totally taking over right now. I have an argument in front of the appellate court this Wednesday on a multi-million dollar case that has been going on for years, and am waking up in the middle of the night with those nightmares where I sleep through the damn thing. I will be so relieved wednesday evening, when the damn thing is behind me (and then I'll just have to wait many months for the court's decision...). On top of that, school has been nuts. I finished my midterms but now I have to grade the ones from the class I teach, and I just don't want to do it! I also have a paper I need to revise for publication that is supposed to be in by the end of the month and that is soooo not happening. Plus all the usual work/school/volunteer/family/life responsibilities . . . its not pretty.

I did, however, manage to work out some of the stress on the bike and road this week (and threw in some yoga, too). I have also found some ways to "trick" myself into getting in an extra mile or two each day. For example, if I am not going anywhere during the day (I have a home office), I have started leaving the car at the school when i drop my sons off in the a.m., walking back home, and then walking back in the p.m. to pick up them and the car. That way, no matter what else happens, I am forced to do that mileage. Between the cost of gas, global warming, and my need to exercise, I figure its a triple win. :yay: Once it gets a little warmer, I am hoping to hang up the car keys for anything under 5 miles (and that doesn't involve passengers and/or bulky packages) and just walk or bike most places.

Okay, enough with the excuses, rationalizations, and good intention. My hours/miles for the week:

Miles: 28.3
Minutes: 312

Clearly I need another business trip!

Have a great week everyone. And if you want to send some calming pixie dust my way around 2:00 pm on Wednesday, that would be great. After years of work on a case, I'd really hate to blow it by becoming a stammering mess during oral arguments....

Just a quick note before I go to the store and then the gym. I was just on the spreadsheet page and thanks, in part, to some of the other teams not posting in atimely manner, I have great news!!! We are the first team to reach 2000 miles!! :worship: :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2: That is fantastic. Think what we have done as a team. Over 2000 miles in 6 weeks! Most people wouldn't do that in a year. (I have a friend that wouldn't do that in a decade:scared1: .)

I am so proud of this team and all of the accomplishments that we have reached together. Let's keep it up. I bet at the end of the year, we will all be shocked with our totals!

Have a great day everyone!!
Bryan

party:Happy Belated Birthday Bryan!:rockband: :bday: party:

miles: 53 bike/wogging
hours: 9.5

Have a great week team!:cheer2:

:cheer2: Thanks Team :cheer2: Because I belong to this team, I am heading over to the gym to do 8 miles on the dreadmill. I don't mind going outside for 8, but the weather's not cooperating for an outside walk.
Thank goodness for the support of this team!

Sorry about the late report. Here are my miles and total minutes exercised for the week of 3/7-3/13

27.87 miles, 400 minutes.

Happy training everyone

Paul

I got some good swimming in last night, and weights. More on tap for today. Just water running this week (unless my leg gets better), but get to get back on the bike next week! yay!

Betsy Please take care of that hip. I am very happy that you have the desire to get out there but let's make sure that you are healed up first. No more injuries. By the way, I found out what caused my soreness in my legs. I went for a jog around the track and I was going under the assumption that I didn't need to stretch out again. That caused my issues. I am still getting on the bike everyday and the soreness is starting to get better. Thanks for the info though.

Update Just a brief update. I am still getting in some good miles this week but I am not trying to get in as many as I did last week. I am planning on getting between 100-120 for the week which is still good but probably not what you have been expecting from me. I will get back up to the 150 mile range again but just not this week.

Hope everyone is having a great week. From what I saw the last time I looked at the numbers, we have moved up to 2nd place and we are gaining on 1st. :woohoo: :yay: That's very cool! Let's get out there and show Jessica's Rabbits what we are all about!

Bryan

Bryan, I don't think anyone "expects" you to do any more than you want to or can! :goodvibes Don't be too hard on yourself!

Paul, and SamSam and TwoTooHappy...great work!

I am going to try a short run tonight to see if my leg works. If it's a no go, then I will water run tomorrow. I have started being better about doing strength training---ouch! :scared1: But it's a good soreness.

Hey Team!! Had a real good cardio session today. My legs are feeling a lot better. I guess I should have stretched out some more before I jogged on the track the other day. But, like I said, I am feeling a lot better. Went to the gym today and did another 25 miles in 90 minutes on the bike. That gives me 85 miles so far for the week still with a couple of training days to go. I feel good about the prospects of what I should be able to contribute. What is also good about it is that the miles are not "hurting" as much as they were so my legs are getting accustomed to this type of training. Hopefully, that will mean I will be able to contribute more and more.

Betsy I know that there are no real "expectations" put on anyone here. This is a friendly competition where everyone does what they can. In all honesty, I put the expectations on myself. Not trying to be hard on myself but to push myself. It may sound like self-defication but it is actually self-motivation. It's like when I thought I had failed the team the first week I thought I was going to miss the 100 mile mark. I know everyone would have been fine with what I was able to do but it pushed me out the door to get the other miles done and I have been able to keep up that up since. It really is just me setting "internal" goals, thats all. How is the training for the Ironman coming? Are you going to Hawaii for that event? Man, what a trip that would be! My parents have been there a couple of times but it's just not in the cards for me just yet. Hopefully?!

Hope eveyone else is healthy and doing good. You guys are great and so extremely motivating for me. Keep up the AWESOME job!!

Go Team Go!!!:cheer2: :yay:

Paul, and SamSam and TwoTooHappy...great work!

Good wishes for your leg working! :goodvibes

bubba 73- Your miles are awesome! Please remember to stretch....like you, I overlook the importance of stretching and pay the price later. Not stretching and not wanting to take days off are my biggest problems in my 'workout' schedule.
Your enthusiasm for our team is inspiring, but please don't overdo and injure yourself. :goodvibes

Thanks, y'all...my leg is still hurt. I went to the track after work and was limping before I made one lap. Then it started raining and snowing, so I bailed and didn't even try to at least walk a mile (for even numbers, ya know!). I'm getting a bit discouraged, but will see a PT guy on Monday for it.

So...I went to water run this morning and did strength work, so that's all good.

Happy Spring, everyone!

Where is our fearless leader? Miss ya, Big Vic!
