anyone stayed here.
wanting some ifo ,is there much to do around the area of the resort that we could walk to i.e restaurants etc, or would we need to drive to clearwater and surrounding area for different restaurants.

We stayed just up St.Pete's beach at the Howard Johnson in 1997. The Don Cesar is the first hotel you see as you cross the bridge from the mainland onto St.Petes. It looks very impressive....and pink!

Can't remember that many restaurants nearby - although we never really looked as we ate at our hotel (our first trip to Florida so were a bit green and didn't explore much LOL). We did find a McDs though!

There is the Dolphin shopping centre just up the road a little way, there may be a few restaurants there.

Thanks Goofyish,
contemplating a week here , but think DD might be bored by the end of it.
i enjoy Orlando, as there is plenty of shopping and restaurants, and other things to do , so not sure if DD would have enough to keep her occupied.
will probably think about it for a while longer before i change my bookings around.

Hi Robert !!

When are you planning on going? I have a friend who has a condo at St. Pete's so I can get you plenty of info (he's just been over for 3 weeks).

Up near the Tradewinds Island Grand is Sila's Dents and Crabby Bills both great restaurants, plus most of the hotels have a variety of restaurants.

Claire ;)

I am booked in to RPR at the moment 30th June to 21st July, but was thinking about a week down at clearwater or St petes, either the first week of our stay or the last week. If it was only me and DW it would not be a problem, but think DD would be a bit bored if there is not much happening the immediate area or even at the hotel.
Any ifo would be appreciated,scottishsue

How old is DD? Tradewinds Island Grand have a good kids program. You can alos explore the area, the Sunshine Skyway bridge is great to drive over and Bradenton outlets are good for shopping.

DD is 11, was thinking of the Don Cesar, as i was tempted last year , but stayed at universal for the 3 weeks.
DW and myself are not the beach type, we never go to the beach wherever we go on holiday, we would usually stay about the hotel pool.
Dw reckons there would not be enough to keep her occupied for a week.
must have a look at the Tradewinds

We stayed at the Don Cesar in 2004 and 2005.

We have only ever stayed there for 3 nights at a time, DD was too young for the kids club at the time as I think they start at age 5.

The hotel and pool are great, the beach is cleaned daily so its very clean as well.

We didn't think that the restaurants in the close proximity looked very good and the hotel main restaurants seemed very 'posh'

We stayed 3 nights at St Pete earlier this year. In between swimming in the pool/sea/on the beach we went to Clearwater, took a dolphin-watching boat trip and went to Fort de Soto park. We only booked 3 nights as we didn't know how long to go for ~ well, it wasn't long enough but I have 3 DDs so they are company for each other. If we had spent more time there I would have liked to have gone into St Petersburgh and spent more time at Fort de Soto.

The Don Cesar looks absolutely lovely ~ I would have booked it only they would only sleep max. of 4 to a room.

If you do decide to go you must eat at Crabby Bills ~ don't be put off by the shabby appearance. It's fab food and a great atmosphere in there. :goodvibes
