Is it worth doing? I want to book it for my husbands surprise trip, but in my passporter it says that dolphin interaction is not guaranteed. Has anyone done it and not had dolphin interaction? How far out do I need to book and, and where do I call? Is there another place in Orlando that has Dolphin interaction that would be guaranteed, like at sea world or something?

Sea World has Discovery Cove, it's across the street from Sea World. There you do have interaction with the dolphins. You might want to look up the Sea World web page. You do have to book it, and I am not sure how much it costs. Good luck.

DH and I did Dolphins in Depth this past November and we loved it. If you search you'll find my review. It was included in the plan we were on at the time, so we felt it was well worth it;) You get to rub them down and give them signals in waist-deep water. I've never read anything about the dolphins *not* interacting with you, but since it's impossible to force an animal that size to do something, there is a possibility that they'd decide they weren't having anything to do with it on your particular day. But since there are 2 or them, chances are very high that at least one of them will be happy to see you:) We booked a few months before our trip. The number you call is 407-WDW-TOUR.

With all of that said, on our next trip we'll be trying Discovery Cove. We want to *swim* with the dolphins this time :goodvibes And there there are so many dolphins that the interaction is guaranteed. It is expensive though - over $200/person. For that, the interaction had better be guaranteed ;)

If you just wanted to touch the dolphins, I'm pretty sure there's a place in Sea World where you can feed them - you have to buy the fish, but it's a lot cheaper than either Dolphins or Discovery Cove.

HTH:)

I have never done this through Disney. But I went on a cruise last summer and I took an excersion to interact with a dolphin. I got to tell you, it was worth the price. I got to touch the dolphin, dance with him, and I also go many kisses. I had so much fun and I even got a picture of me with the dolphin. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

I have been dolphin crazy since I was little(now 37) and did the Dolphins In Depth program November 2003. It is not a "swim" with the dolphins but as previously posted you get into their tank and stand waist deep and get to rub them down and give some handsignals. We were told that if the dolphins don't want to interact with us they don't make them. However, that has only ever happened one time since they started the program. They also take your picture with the dolphin and give a Dolphins In Depth t-shirt as part of the price. Price is 1/2 of Discovery Cove. You also get to go behind the scenes and learn more about the dolphins and the training and research Disney does with the dolphins. I loved it.

I think I am convinced on doing the dolphins in depth! Hopefully there will be an opening for 2 people when we go. Do you know how far in advanced it has to be booked? I am taking my DH on a trip (he doesn't know) and this dolphin in depth would be another surprise for him ( I am having LOTS of fun planning this trip. But having a hard time keeping it a secret)
I want to so this in Jan. Do you think it's too late and it's all booked up?? I hope not. Do I have to pay it when I call? Or is there just a deposit taken from a CC??

I did DID last year. I did have to provide my CC# when I called and I was billed right away. Go ahead and call for January. I did it in the beginning of June '04 and called in May and had no problems getting in. It's $150 per person, but if you have the Birnbaum's Guide to WDW, there is a 15% off coupon and I believe it's good for up to 4 people. It really is a wonderful experience. Interaction is not guaranteed, but in the many years they've been doing this, there's only been two times that there wasn't an interaction. It's a pretty safe bet.

We went to Sea World two weeks ago and my DD(16) spent about an hour doing this. She loves the dolphins and didn't want to leave. :fish: The part of Sea world this is in is Key West.

My DD also went swimming with the dolphins when we went to Mexico. She loved it, Mexico the country not Mexico at Epcot.

When I asked the same question a few weeks ago, they said that the dolphins almost always participate. The poster said something like "basically if you wave a fish in their face, they will participate."

I intend to do this in November.

They charge you right away? That's new... I've gone surfing at TL and while they took my CC for a deposit, they didn't bill me until I actually went surfing.

Well I know they charged me right away. I callled at the beginning of May right before my CC billing cycle ended for the month...and about a week later I got my CC statement and saw the charge on there. It actually had me relieved...because I didn't want to have to worry about it later on.
