We are planning a DL trip in Sept, for our 6th anniversary on Sept 12. Since Dolphin's cove has appeared as a resort available to II timeshare members, I was considering trying to book it. Can anyone tell me what it is like? How far is it from DL?

How about Mariott's Newport Coast Villas? How much of a drive would that be? We will have a rental car, but I'd prefer to drive as little as possible.

I'd really love to stay at GCH, but it would be way more cost effective to use our timeshare week if we can.

Thanks! :wave2:

My group of 9 people stayed there last June in a 3 bedroom. One master suite with bathroom and TV, one bedroom with a queen bed, and one bedroom with two twin beds (with TV); the couch in the front room folded out to a bed. The resort is pretty nice, it's a converted apartment complex (hence the 3 bedroom). They had a nice pool that we enjoyed. Supposedly they had a big clubhouse thing but we never went in there.

I think I read on this board, though, that it's hard to trade into this resort. We didn't (and won't when we go this year) use our week, we just pay out of pocket. I don't know that for a fact, though, but thought I would pass it on in case. HTH!

Oops, forgot one part.

I don't exactly remember how far it was, but I think it was no more than a 10 minute, maybe even 5 minute drive with traffic. I don't know if they offered trams to DL, I think it was just the pay service tram. We drove :)

My parents own Fairfield and stayed at Dolphin's Cove with our kids once. I don't know details, but they said it was nice. They used the Anaheim city trams and found them convenient and cheap.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking it will be really hard for us to get since it is primarily an RCI resort and we are II members, but I may put in for it anyway and see what happens.

Nice to know it is so close and transportation is available. How was the noise there? On our wedding trip we stayed at HOJO Parkside and our room was right next to the freeway. Good view, but very noisy!

We stayed at Mariott's Newport Coast Villas in Oct. The location is wonderful and the condos are awesome. We had the 2 bedroom and it was HUGE! By far one of the nicer resorts we've stayed at (as far as timeshares go).

As far as the drive from there.. depends on which way you go and what time you leave. But on average to get to DLR it was about 20-25 minute drive in average traffic. More if we hit a rush hour.

Thanks, Mom2micayla! I figured, being a Marriott, it would be pretty gppd. The ones we have stayed at always have been among our favorites. It's farther from DL than I'd like to be though. Maybe if we decide to just go for a week and use it as our base of operations for both DL and a few days in San Diego it might work, or maybe a few days in DL and a few days at Newport Beach would be good. So many choices, so little time..... :teeth:

That's exactly what we did. :) We got the Southern Cal City Pass and did both DLR and SeaWorld/Zoo in San Diego.

The resort itself is gorgeous. It's ontop of a big hill. If you're in the right building, you can see the ocean from your balcony. IIRC it had 3 pools, game rooms, tennis courts, etc. Very nice. I'm not sure if all of the rooms have them, but ours had a whirlpool tub that could have seated 10. My kids loved that. Plus it's just right down the street from the beach.
