Has anyone stayed at the Dophin recently? I keep reading reviews of a musty odor in the rooms??

If you have stayed here, would you consider the rooms more upscale than Disney Deluxe or about the same? Thanks!

Don't know about the musty odor recently - our last stay there was perhaps 9 months ago.

I'd rate the rooms as approximately equal to the Disney Deluxe. They are better than WL/AKL because of size, but perhaps not as nice as YC/BC/Poly/GF.

We were very dissappointed when we stayed there. The rooms just seemed so dated and it didn't look like a lot of care had gone into the upkeep. Our room didn't have a musty odor, but it certainly wasn't immaculate by any means. There weren't any major problems with our stay... I'd just sum up the overall feel of the resort as "eh..." lol that's the best word for it.

This exactly. We've stayed at S/D about 6 or 7 times over the years (most recently in March) & have never had a musty odor in the room.

I think they are fine for the price. Not as high a price as the Yacht or Beach Club...which are also very fine resorts. If the rooms are considered dated, it hadn't occured to me. Frankly I spend little time there anyway.
I never smelled anything...at least in the rooms I have stayed in and I was last there in January 2012. I found the rooms to be clean.

We had to stay there for one night before our visit to SSR for a few days. I wouldn't waste my money there. It didn't have the Disney feel...it felt like Corporate America with a big convention there. The bathroom especially needed a refurb cause it had horrible lighting and was super small. I wouldn't compare this resort to a deluxe at all. The very next day when we checked into SSR, it was heaven!! The only thing I would say good about the Dolphin was the fact that the room was a tad bigger, and the transportation to Epcot or HS was nice. Other than that, I would not stay there again.

:thumbsup2

Ditto. Both S/D are definitely equal to Disney Deluxe in size, appointments, transportation & ammenities. They do lack the Disney theming but we don't need Disney in our faces 24/7 to be on vacation there. We actually prefer the decor of S/D over many WDW resorts.

We've been to both several times & have never been disappointed, and never had a smell in the room.

We were there in June.. the first room they put us in did smell musty.

Friends of ours switched twice that stay too.. first time for a cockroach in the room, then for the musty smell.

the Dolphin was a huge disappointment!!

The pools were not the cleanest... and the hallway carpets were thread bare. (the list goes on longer, but wont bore you with the other details.)

the hotel needs a major major face lift!!

Even though our room was free, we wont be returning ever.

Our most recent stay was a king room last Dec. No musty odor. We have stayed in the double bed rooms the other 2 times we were here and never had an odor either. We do like to keep our room very cool, and I wonder if the air conditioning helps?

We plan to stay at the Swan for the first time this coming Dec.

I agree with the other posters about rooms being comparable to the other area deluxe resorts - however, the price difference between deluxe and s/d can be huge. We've stayed at Boardwalk and Beach Club in the past and don't necessarily prefer the s/d rooms, but we certainly prefer the lower price for the same location.

We just returned from the Dolphin on Saturday, there was no musty odor at all. Our room was spotless, and we did not find any part of it outdated. It was very bright and inviting. Our previous 5 trips we've stayed at both moderates and deluxe hotels and we can't wait to return to the Dolphin.
We stayed in the west wing in room 7176 if this helps. Enjoy your trip!!

We often stay at Swan & Dolphin & haven't had any odor issues in the room. We also agree it's definitely a deluxe resort in a deluxe area for a moderate price. Like someone else said we don't need to be immersed in Hidden Mickeys & charaters all the time, it's actaully a nice change to go back to a regular room at night. I've never felt the decor was dated or worn out.

We don't need (or even necessarily want) the 24/7 themeing and appreciate a more traditional hotel feel, that said, I've never had an issue with an smell or anything other than a great room and stay. I will say that I think all hallways in all the central FL hotels I've stayed in smell weird, Gf/Poly, the Waldorf, the Omni and the YC/BC. I think the interior hallways just smell funny. I've never noticed it more in the Swan/Dolphin and I think my worst smell issues were at the Poly, but that's been several years now. I will say the CR does not have that smell in the atrium, but the Chef Mickey smell/sound in the morning is another thing:)

we always stay at the swan dolphin every time and love it. I would agree they are comporable to the BC YC. But for half the price at least. I think the S/D doesnt get enough credit on these boards mostly because the people on these boards are hard core Disney fans and wouldnt even consider a non Disney owned hotel. In my opinion.
