I know if you do the dolphin swim they give you a life jacket, but do you need to know how to swim? I am trying to decide between the dolphin encounter and the swim. The swim sounds like more fun, but my 5 year old doesnt know how to swim very well. It had a minimum height, but didnt say anything about swimming ability.

I know you're asking about Costa Maya, but when we did it in Cozumel there was a man in our group who couldn't swim. They had a lifeguard stay next to him in the water. He didn't swim out for the dolphin to get him like the rest of us did. They had the dolphin come to the platform to get him. This was with Dolphin Discovery. We did the push and pull. We were in the ocean with strong waves, I wouldn't have felt comfortable with my dd doing it if she hadn't know how to swim. The dolphin trainers told us to make sure we held on to our kids while in the water because of the strong waves. I know in some places you're in a swimming pool with the dolphins, sorry don't know if Costa Maya is ocean or pool.

9/23/17 Fantasy. In Cozumel, 7 of us. 4 Adults and 3 children ages 8,8 and 6. None of the children are terrific swimmers. We had an adult tag along with the kids. The dolphin took its time and deliver the children one by one with expertise. No really,,, the kids all had easy rides. The adults were treated to a high level so to speak. LOL.. Do it...
