Dolphin Swim- Can 8yo do this without a parent?

I know the guidelines say 6 and up, but realistically, will i be sorry letting me 8 y0 DD do this without a parent in the water? thanks, julie

Threeprincesses - I am curious about this too - My 8 yr. old dd is IN LOVE with dolphins and I'd love to have her swim with them next year when we go - but, I was only going to have her swim with the dolphins, not us or her brother - Where would we go during this time?

I'll try to help - we are doing this Monday! I've read several reports where children did this without parents. It's done in a group, with a trainer, so your daughter would always have someone to help. When are you going? I'll be glad to give you my impression when we return.

I don't think she would have a problem going alone. Not only would she be with a group and the trainer, those not doing the dolphin swim in her group would be able to watch the whole interaction from the beach. When I was at Discovery Cove last year, the trainer even suggested good picture spots around the dolphin lagoon (nonswimmers just can't get into the water) for the nonswimming family members of a couple of the people in my interaction group.

When I made my ressies at Discovery Cove they told me that the child would have to be 13 years old to do the Dolphin Swim without a parent. HTH

We will be there on sunday, may 29th. Of course i already have reservations and nobody said anything when I reserved the dolphin swim for our daughter and not for mom and dad. One other question, can you change your mind once you get there, i.e., if dad decides to the dolphin swim, can we add it at check-in? thanks

Update: I just spoke to a rep. You must have an adult with you to enter the park for 13 and under; however, you can do the dolphin swim without an adult starting at age 6. The rep. said this is no problem. You can only add dolphin swim if there is availability on your particular day. Not for ours since it is full for the holiday weekend.
