Dolphin rooms/best locations?

I have reservations for the Dophin in mid may. I am hoping for an upgrade with Starwood. After reading a lot of reviews, it seems there is a tradeoff with a room with a view or balcony and location of the room. I am reading that the "good" rooms quite far from anything in the hotel including elevators, pools, resturants, et...

Any comments?

We just returned yesterday. We really enjoyed the Dolphin, but it is a very large and confusing hotel.

Our first room on the 4th floor was in the east wing. We overlooked dumpters - we didn't mind the view since we are rarely in the room, but the noise at night was too much. I would request a room without this view.

We were moved to the 4th floor on the west side. This side was much closer to everything - pools, food, etc. and a better view.

We also discovered a small outside area on the 20th floor. It faces the Magic Kingdom. We didn't get a chance, but try to view fireworks from here - it's far away, but probably very cool.

Have fun.

I suppose the perfect room at the Dolphin would have a view of the Epcot fireworks and be in the West Wing, close to the pool and elevator. I don't agree that there is a trade-off between view and location. I just think there are fewer of these rooms to be had. We had the standard room and were upgraded to a resort view which was a very nice view of the Boardwalk, cresent lake and the Swan hotel. We had not accumulated any Starwood points, so if we wanted to upgrade to a better view or a balcony, we would have had to pay. The balconies are pretty small, so I didn't mind not having that, and we were never in the room during the fireworks, so not having that view wasn't a problem either. There are three sets of elevators, which run VERY fast, so I didn't mind a short walk to the elevator. We were on the East wing and the West Wing is much closer to the pool.

The one thing I would ask for now is a renovated room. The "old" rooms are nice enough, but those Westin heavenly beds are just that.

Thanks for replys.

Sherri,

Did you find you room in the East, resort view, wing to be quiet?

I spoke to Dolphin reservations yesterday and she told me all rooms now have the heavly beds.

I had a room on the 4th floor on the West side(OOPS MY BAD...MEANT EAST SIDE), but at the side of the hotel facing the Swan and never heard any noise or had any problems. You can still see the fireworks even fron the 4th floor over BC and BW. lso as NHAnn said below rooms on the end of ech wing will have firework views :)

The elevators are located in the main building, so if you are in a wing, you will have to walk a little, but really it is not that bad. I did it with 2 two year olds, and a 9 year old by myself.

I would ask for the Wet wing on a high floor...remeber that they can only offer if it is available, and even then it isw not gauranteed unless it is what you book.

For an Epcot view at the Dolphin you will need an EAST wing room. The WEST wing faces the grotto pool and MGM.

This is not entirely true....there are actually east facing rooms in the west wing, as confusing as that may sound. Epcot is east of the Dolphin, and the Grotto and MGM are west and the Swan is south. There are four "fingers" that jut out towards the Swan from the main Dolphin building As you walk down the hallway of the "fingers", you are walking due south and the rooms on your left side face east and the rooms on your right side face west. So even if your room is on the west end of the building , if it's way out towards the tip of the fingers and faces east, you can see Epcot. These rooms are furthest from the elevators in the "main" part of the building, but the view is worth it IMHO :) On the "fingers", the closer you are to the main building and the elevators, the more your view is limited to the wing across from you and the Swan....unless you are on the OUTSIDE of either the furthest east or furthest west "finger"...in which case you'll see either the whole Epcot Resort area and Epcot to the east...or the Grotto pool and MGM's ToT to the west. Up on the high floors of the main triangular part of the building you can see it all......but no balconies.........

are you totally confused now?!?! ;) :)

Do they give special consideration for people who may have trouble walking, but don't need a handicapped room? We are going with my MIL who will be walking on her own, but would like to save her strength for the "important" walking: all the rest of the world! We have standard rooms booked, and will probably join SPG. too if that would help.

Checked on Starwood site and have been allocated a Deluxe room with balcony and resort view including I think Crescent Lake. Have not stayed at Dolphin before will we be pleased with this room:confused: Please can anyone help?
