We're already thinking about next years trip and one of us brought up the Swan & Dolphin resorts. We know nothing about these resorts except they are on Disney property but not owned by Disney. From the photos we have found we kind of like the looks of the Dolphin. Does anyone know if they still offer the Entertainment rate of 50% off rack that I read about on these boards or have they stopped doing that? Also I'm not too familiar with the views there. Do they have any balcony rooms that have a water view? What does "resort view" mean exactly? Is there any way of finding out what the rate in those rooms would be without having to phone them directly? I know there used to be a really good thread with S & D information here but I cannot seem to find it. Thanks.

The Dolphin is an outstanding place to stay, both for convenience and comfort. It is a starwood resort..so you also get points for your stay if you are a starwood member, if not, become one.

You can go on the entertainment book website and look at what is/is not included in the book you would be ordering to get the discount..so you will know whether or not dolphin is included.

The have all sorts of views, standard of course which is nothing basically, on up to balcony water/resort view which is the most expensive of course. Resort view could be MGM or EPCOT, we have had both and both are fantastic. We could see the MGM fireworks with that view. Water view is mostly the little canal the boats run up and down taking you from park to resort etc.

You can search rates at spg.com, swandolphin.com, and the usuals like expedia or travelocity. Also keep and eye on this board, as the TA's who sponsor often offer great rates for swan/dolphin.

Just keep in mind..if you book online, the cancellation policy is very rigid if you need to make changes. 99% of the time I find the rates to be better by calling dolphin reservation line directly. Also, when you call directly you have a much better cancellation policy. Believe me..we learned this the hard way last fall. Ugh.

Anyway..the Dolphin is a true deluxe resort with the big comfy beds, wonderful linens and ammenities. Your restaurant options both at the resort and within minutes of the resort are excellent. It is truley and excellent place to stay.

Thanks so much webray. You make this resort sound terrific. We are really going to research this place. I do have a crazy question though. The balconies I see in the pictures look kind of scarey to me. Are they nice high sturdy balconies? I suffer from mild vertigo. I wouldn't feel dizzy out there would I? I never have on any of the Disney hotel balconies.
