hi, can anyone who has stayed at the Dolphin help me. I've booked a good rate for Aug 14-17 standard view. My request was to be close to the grotto pool. Does anyone know of a floor, wing or room I should request to be close to pool(don't care about floor just proximity), with a fair view? Also, will my DH and 2 DD(13 and 11) like this resort as much as the Poly, Coronado and the POFQ? Thanks in advance ,sue:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

I was on the 3rd floor in the West Wing. We had a nice view of the lake and pool in the background. We were also very close to Tubbi's, the arcade, and the laundry room.

Enjoy your trip!!!:D

Definitely the West wing(and no it is not like the West Wing in Beauty and the Beast) The higher up you are the betteer the view of the pool. If you are over the 6th floor you can see over the palm trees, and see Fantasmic :) :)

God luck and enjoy!

:Pinkbounc I'm so grateful for your suggestions. I only asked for a room close to the grotto pool, but I'll fax a more detailed reuest over before we leave and follow up with a call. I'll ask for west wing and one of the higher floors. It's funny but we've stayed at the Poly, POFQ, Coronado so my girls have never stayed on an upper floor. My 'GREAT" rate was $101.00/night. Others may get better rates,I'm sure. I just felt like I got a good rate. Thanks again!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

To get to Tubbi's from the 3rd floor, did you have to walk all the way down to the elevator or was there a stairway or quicker route? Thanks...:p

I also want to know how you got a rate of $101.00 and if it is still available.

Yes please share with us how you got this great rate!!
Just booked with the receipe card rate and thought that was pretty good!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

How'd ya get such a super rate???

In October 2001, we stayed at the Swan with a TEACH $99 rate. Anyone remeber that deal? I think it was a newspaper misprint. Thanks to the DIS word spread fast :-)

I got that great mistake rate and when i returned the following year they gave it to me again. I was in the computer as a travel agent and when i told them i wasn't they said not to worry the rate was better than my pre-booked gov't fate.

Wow that is an amazing rate - the travel agent rate I was quoted was much higher than the teacher rate (dh is a 3rd grade teacher) I was amazed at how they give teachers such a great deal!

suedisney,

Just back from the Dolphin today. The Dolphin is under major construction at this time. We noticed the 1-3 floors in the West wing were closed & being remodeled now, which is closest to the pool, the 1st floor looked almost done, we seen them delivering TV's & bed's. I am sure these floors will be done by the time you will arrive, however, the floors above you may be under construction. FYI, the workers worked all day until around 5-6pm. Have a save trip!

dahess-i just changed my res at dolphin to upgrade to cl-am now thinking of cancelling-everyone has always had nice things to say about cl-i have 3 teens and thought it would be worth it to upgrade just for the breakfast-now i am not so sure-i also dont want daughters to feel uncomfortable at the pool with construction workers lurking around during the day-they are self conscious(SP) enough! dont want to spend precious time waiting for elevators either!did you complain about the treatment at the club? i may just switch to standard at the swan--any thoughts?

Why don't you try to get the postcard receipt rate at the swan.
All the rooms have already been redone.

CL would be worth it if you kids are not as picky as mine. For breakfast everyday it was the same, coffee, juice, milk, pasteries, toast, bagels, fruit & cereal. The only thing my kids would eat was the cereal (fruit loops), dh & I do not eat, so we used CL in the am for 3 pkgs of cereal & 3 milks. In the pm it was pop, water, fruit, cheese & crackers, cookies & a hot snack. There was only one hot snack every evening, 1 night there was crab rangoon, 1 night there was mini kiesh's (sp), & the next night it was those hot pepper things (poppers maybe). We usually had a character meal in the evenings so we did not eat, not that my kids would eat anything anyway.

I think it would be worth your while to use CL if your kids will eat the stuff there, mine didn't & it was not worth the exta $$ a night for 3 pkgs of fruit loops & 3 milks. We spent 60-70 extra for CL & to buy fruit loops & milk would cost about $10.00.

We did not complain about the CL hosts, because we just blew it off as maybe they were having a bad week:) We all know how that can be. I know they work in a service industry, but it didn't bother us.

If we were to go back tomorrow & know what we know now, we would chose the Swan over the Dolphin because of the construction. I really did feel uncomfortable with all of the workers walking around. I did notice that sometimes when I would walk by with out dh, the workers (spanish speaking) would stare & say things in spanish & then laugh. I got to the point where I would cover up my top half with a towel & the bottom with another towel.

I am sure after the renovations at the Dolphin are done, it will great.

None of the workers on property or in the resort should be "staring and making comments/laughter" as you pass in a state of "undress" (from/to the pool). This is not only offensive and rude, it is a "safety" concern. There are many younger children, and teens, whom walk to/from the pool past these workers. In the world we reside in today, you can NEVER BE TOO CAREFUL. I'm sorry you experienced this sort of thing, and apologize for your discomfort. :(

If ANYONE traveling there in the near future experiences similar forms of behavior from this construction team/staff, I would strongly advise you to contact SECURITY immediately. I can assure you, this will be the measure I will take. I will "squash" this behavior abruptly, and these workers will either "modify" their actions, or leave the premises. I do not tolerate such harassment, and will take prompt efforts to prevent others from being subjected to their ignorant ways.

I'm sorry if I seem abrupt/harsh with regards to this matter. Yet, when a patron expends money (considerable sums) in this depressed economy to vacation and relax, only to experience stress, I'm personally offended. I know firsthand, the resort security will not take the matter lightly, and will ABSOLVE the problem asap. :)

Again, I'm sorry for the anxiety you experienced. You should never have been exposed to this sort of trouble in the WDW Dolphin. I only wish I would have been walking behind you when this occurred. They would have NEVER exhibited such outbursts again! :p

I agree with the person that commented about the construction workers. I left there on June 15 and got the same reaction from the workers. I did not think CL was worth it after night number 3 I asked to be downgraded to a regular room. Food choices in CL were very limited and not worth 70$. When I asked CL to make me a reservation they told me to go downstairs this happened 2 out of 3 days.

These new threads about the state of the Dolphin under construction and rude construction workers and potential attitude from CL is making me SERIOUSLY think about changing to the Swan. . . . .

Still waiting to hear from SueDisney on how she got that great rate.
