We are staying at the Dolphin this summer and are very bummed about the resort fee. We dont drink coffee, we have cell phones, we dont use the exercise room..

my question is about the internet access. Do you have to have a laptap to access this or is everything in the room for you to use?

We dont have a laptop and if that is the case there is really nothing we will be using that they charge the fee for.

You need to have a computer. They do not provide a computer or laptop. Sorry :( probably not the answer you wanted to hear.

No not the answer I wanted but kinda what I thought. It seems crazy to be charging $10 when the main thing is the internet..I think they should let you decide if you want to use the things on their list and if not, waive the fee.

I have read they wont though so I guess its just another $10 for the hotel..

Curious.... how do you hook up the laptop to the service in the room, is it an ethernet cable or a regular phone cable... anyone know? Anything else you know about the hook up process and procedures would be greatly appreciated.

Ethernet hookup! The cable is in one of the lamps on the desk. Plug in, turn on your cmputer and in a few seconds you're surfing and posting to the DIS! (you'll automatically go to the Swan/Dolphin home page. You can surf where you would like from there). We took my laptop down last June and it made it very nice to check last minute menu/restaurant ideas, and of course post my "Live from the Swan" threads!

Happy Saturday!

BOTH the Dolphin & Swan provide WIRELESS KEYBOARDS in the rooms. By navigating the menu, you will be able to "order" the internet service at a fee of $10 (I believe it was for an hour of use). It's a wonderful extra convenience for those whom do not bring a computer with them, but wish to use one in the privacy of their resort room. You access the net via the TV, and use the keyboard accordingly.

Perhaps you may speak with someone at the front office with regards to your quandary. It is not often the resort fee is "waived", but...they do make exceptions. Perhaps you could ask for one hour of the internet service (each day) to be "waived" in lieu of paying the resort fee? While we were in Key West this summer, we had the fee "waived" by the resort manager, as we are PLAT SPG and already receive every perk listed! We were there a couple nights prior to visiting Little Palm Island *(Torch Key), and the staff was wonderful. So, by all means ASK someone in regards to this question. It NEVER hurts to inquire, and the associates are adept in MAKING the MAGIC HAPPEN!

Enjoy your time there!!

P.S.To add to Debbie's post...you may also use the Dial-up service via the phone. Each phone has a separate data port for this use, and also two phone lines. Wireless is also another option!!
