First of all, NOT to cause a scare...

My daughter and I decided last Wednesday to take a last minute trip to Disney. We found a great air/hotel package and left the next morning for The Dolphin. We've stayed at The Swan before and loved it. The Dolphin was great, too. Except for the following..

I woke up our 2nd day with itching on my hip. After we got to MGM, I noticed several tiny bites on my hip, shoulder and trunk. There were even a few on one of my knuckles. I called The Dolphin and requested that my room be checked and linens changed. Since we went to NOJ that evening we did not get back to the hotel until after midnight. I asked the check-in desk if anything had been done and they told me that the linens were changed and the room sprayed. Didn't actually say if anything was found. The next morning - more bites. As this was a quick trip, we flew home that afternoon and I waited until Monday morning to call the hotel. My brother (a doctor) said that these were definatley bug bites and gave me cream to help the itching. (I'm diabetic - no cortisone shots for me) The hotel said they would be back with me that afternoon. No call. I called the next day and left a message - I wanted to know what had bitten me!! No call. Finally the next morning I received a call and was told that no one else had complained and she had checked with security (???) and they had determined no bugs in that room.

Has anyone else had similar experiences??

Did you take pictures of the bites?

I got bites just like that when we stayed at the GF. They really itch. I don't know if it was gnat bites that itched later or bedbugs!! I've read here on the boards that it's not that super unusual to have bedbugs at WDW. YUCK!

I think I would follow up with a formal letter asking them to look into the situation.

were the bites only on areas of your body that were exposed at sleep time? Just curious if there is a chance you might have been bitten while outside. Here in FL, we have these little fly things (not mosquitos) and they can pack a nastly little itchy bump. There is a chance you might have been bitten by them outside...especially morning and dusk.

Well...I dont know what a letter would do. I really never wanted anything, such as a comp on my room, I just wanted to know what the heck bit me. No pictures were taken..the guy at the check-in desk would have been blind not to see them because I forgot to mention that they were (are) on my jaw line as well. I have considered getting the bites somewhere else but found it interesting that the bites appeared in the mornings.

Come to think of it, a discount on a room for a future visit might not have been out of line...

Are you sure they were bites and not hives? Maybe you were allergic to something. I often get little hives every now and then on various places on my body. They are little bumps, they itch and then they are gone by the next day. Just a thought.

Yep..thought of that..but it's been a week and I still have them. Again ,my brother the doctor confirmed they were insect bites. I've also considered that maybe I got them on the plane but wondered why I had more the 2nd morning I woke up...

Thanks though..

I got bites like that on my feet and legs from sitting down on the sand at Ft. Wilderness' beach. I think they were caused by chiggers. They're very common in damp areas with a lot of vegetation.

Yes, we live in Louisiana and know about chiggers. They're not any fun either!!

I'm so excited to see pictures of your pugs!! We have a fwan male named Henry and a black female named Sophie! Aren't pugs great!!!

Fleas maybe? They seem to itch forever afterwards. Not that I know this, of course. :rolleyes1 :headache: :scared:

(another pug lover/owner checking in, too!)

Is it possible they were bites from no-see-ums. We have a lot of those here. They do itch a lot!

Be persistent in complaining, Dolphin is a Starwood property. I have never stayed in a Starwood property that did not eventually respond in a very positive way to any major complaints. :thumbsup2

I'm from Alabama and we tent camp all over the South. I've been bitten by chiggers more times than I could count, but never had chigger bites anywhere on my face. Chiggers usually bite around any areas like waistbands of underwear or pants. Anywhere that elastic or a tight waistband touches my body, they will bite! Plus, if it were chiggers, you would most likely continue to see new bites even after you had left your hotel. The little red bugs burrow in your skin and move from one location on your body to another.

Years ago, in the late 70's, I stayed at at hotel in Michigan that had bed bugs. That memory is a bit more vague since it was a one-time incident and many years ago, but what you're describing sounds like bedbugs to me.

Someone mentioned on the sand and the sound of them and the itch perhaps also they could have been fleas. This is the time of the year Aug and Sept I have noticed problems with then outside and make sure the cats are treated.

Also a previous guest may have brought them in their luggage.

The bed bugs, if you lift the sheets and mattress you can see them in corners and rolled edges I have been told.

Maybe do some searching and see if the bites look like yours.
