Just wondering if anyone did the dolphin encounter in Cozumel. It really sounds like fun (everything actually sounds like fun!), but I was curious to see if anyone did this excursion and what they thought. Thanks!

I'd like to know this one, too. The kids would LOVE to do this, and truthfully so would I. But it's a LOT of money for a half hour!

Are you actually getting that full 30 minutes in the water with the dolphins or is some of it getting ready and being instructed?

Is it only petting them, or do you get to swim around with them or go for a ride?

Thanks!

Bumping up. I would like to know to for our Jan 2003 cruise.

Also would January be cold for this excusion?

One more bump! I'm thinking everyone is off enjoying the wonderful weather this weekend! LOL

$105 for a half hour with the dolphins seems expensive to me. Our family will be going to Discovey Cove (SeaWorld) when we get back from our July 6th cruise (Shhhhhh, don't tell the kids - it's a surprise).

For about $200, we spend the whole day at Dicovery Cove swimming with the dolphins (also 30 minutes or so), snorkel in a colorful reef, tropical fish and among stingrays, explore a shipwreck, swim in a tropical river with waterfalls, and enter a free-flight aviary, etc. Yes, it's more money, but we spend the entire day there and it includes a full lunch.

It seems strange to go on a cruise to where these things are naturally found and then spend time at a recreated tropical paradise. Oh, well!

Sorry - no personal experience. That's going o change in about 1 month.

Good luck!

Discovery Cove.... stormkrow, you said for $200, is that per person or per family? I just looked up their website and it quotes $219 per person if I'm reading it correctly.

That's per person. When I booked it 6 months ago, the price was around $190 and change.

It's alot of money for a family of four, but compare everything you get at Discovery Cove for a full day verses $105 per person for 30 minutes. I'd rather spend my cruising time exploring the islands than doing something I can do back in Florida.

imho!:smooth:

I agree with you on the money & time issue. You definitely get your moneys worth at Discovery Cove. It looks really great!

I was looking at this excursion too. We've been to Discovery Cove, and really enjoyed it. The Cozumel excursion is at Chankanaab National Park, and it says you can stay and enjoy what the park has to offer afterwards (busses return every half hour to the port). Looking at other excursions, this park offers a bird show and sea lion show, as well as snorkeling, botanical gardens, and a Mayan village replica. You might have to rent snorkeling equipment, since it isn't mentioned, but this sounds like a pretty good adventure for about half the price of Discovery Cove. Guess we will have to wait until we hear some reports! I'm also curious about Xcaret, which is also pricey. Diana

If you are interested in booking the Dolphin Discovery in Cozumel, book early on the 60 day mark. My 60 day mark was yesterday and I foolishly didn't call until 6:00. I was told that it had sold out before noon.

I'm not able to speak about the Cozumel dolphin's, but the Blue Lagoon in Nassau.

An encounter with a dolphin is an incredible experience, for some people, once-in-a-lifetime!!

I'm very glad I spent the money on this excursion (the money should have gone to pay car insurance, oh well, it's finally paid too). It was worth it just to see my (8 yr.) son's face when the dolphin came up to him for his turn at the hug. A memory of a lifetime!

Just some thoughts for pondering.

Bumping up. Need more info on the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau. We are thinking about doing that excusion and I want more info on that.

I only booked our July 4th cruise 1 month ago and just recieved the info on excursions yesterday, I tried to book the dolphin encounter in Nassau for DD & I and it was already booked! I would say 60 days before your cruise, book your excursion. Special Services 1-877-566-0968
I would say, if you don't know if you'll ever have a chance to do it again, I would do it! I am sorry we aren't going to be able to but I am sure we will find plenty of other things.

The dolphin encounter or the dolphin swim can be booked online at the web address above or look at the site to get a phone number.
If you book this excursion on your own through this website, please remember that you will need to take a taxi to the Paridise Island Ferry terminal, ($4 pp).
If you book this excursion through disney, the ferry will pick up the disney group near the ship.
Any more questions, please ask, I'd be happy to help.

Happy crusin'
