Dolphin Encounter Same as Dolphin Swim?

I have a question for those of you that have done the dolphin excursions before.

I signed my husband and daughter (5) up for the Dolphin Encounter at Cozumel. Will this be where they get to hold on to the fin and ride around, interact in the water, etc.? Is this the same as 'swimming with the dolphins'?

I don't want to build her up for something that is't not going to be.

No, the Dolphin Encounter does not involve riding around or "swimming" with the dolphin. For the encounter, you stand on a platform in the water and the dolphin swims in front of you to touch. You are then given the opportunity to shake fins, and kiss the dolphin for some great photos. However, you never leave the platform.

With the swim, which you have to be at least 8 years old to do, it does involve swimming out and getting belly rides and boogie board rides from the dolphin.

disneyfaninaz is correct - Enounter you only get to touch & kiss them, Swim you actually swim. We did the Push, Pull & Swim at Chankanaab and it was the most amazing experience that we have ever been able to have. We just kept looking at each other and saying "I can't believe that we get to do this!" I would highly recommend!

Here is the link for the one we did at Dolphinaris. You only need to be 5 to do the swim if you book it through Disney. You don't even need to be able to swim very well as my DD swam out with my DGD to help her grab on the dolphins fins. We all had a great time!
