Glo, (or anyone who knows),
What exactly does that $8 fee get you and do you have to pay it?

It pays for your 'free' in-room coffee, daily newspaper and admission to the fitness club and you can waive (not pay) it. I'm told that the coffee machine is just there, so we're bringing our own filters and coffee, I don't want to read any newspapers when I'm at WDW and one can pay $10 per visit to use the fitness club. Also, I think you get local internet access through a phone jack if you bring a laptop.

The $8 includes the daily newspaper, the use of the health club facilities,1 hour local calls (that is not 1 hour total for the day, you have to get off at 59 minutes and then get back on for 59 more mintues. Great if you have a laptop,) unlimited coffee. Hope it helps, but you can also ask to have it waived.

I saw something of the news, a while back, about how hotels are adding small charges to your bill. For example the "resort fee" may just pay for your papers, in which case you can cancel your paper service if you don't want to pay the fee. Other large hotels have started to add small charges for electricity, water, and housekeeping to the bill, but usually they will be taken off if you contest the charges.
